COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brother beer of the Round 12 Munich Dunkel, this “Black Beer” or “Black Pilsner” is less rich and malty than the dunkel and known for its poignant roast character, crisp malt profile, and distinct hopping, very similar to a traditional pilsner. It’s named for the 1938 title fight rematch between Louis and Schmeling when amidst the cultural and political hype Louis defeated Schmeling by TKO in the first round.

Tap at Wolverine. Black pour with a small creamy head that fades to a thick ring. Aroma is mostly burnt coffee with some marshmallow, chocolate, and light pine. Tastes pretty delicious. Roasted coffee but not bitter at all. Burnt wood, pine, toasted marshmallow, light ash, and some dark bread too. Thin body hurts this a little but it’s still very tasty.

Growler shared with family. Pours clear dark mahogany with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice light roast and smoke to it with a backbone of dark grain and dark bread. Flavor starts with smooth dark grains with a touch of roast and smoke.

On tap the brewpub. Nice dark crackery aroma. Bright and vibrant. Flavors are great, great, great. Fresh, punchy dark black malt and roast, combined with clean, dry lagering. The roast malt finish on this is great. Super dry. Very refreshing, flavorful, and with a fantastic, rich returning finish. Great beer.

draft... this is a touch darker than the dark, good looking... roasted milk chocolate aroma, good... the taste is a bit too lactic, coconut as well, interesting and worth having
