India Black Lager.
Think Gulo Gulo, with a dark side. Gulo Noir is the crown jewel for those IPA lovers with a weakness for stouts and porters. This beer starts with Pale malt from Canada and then uses roasted wheat, roasted barley, and a few secret malt additions to give us the perfect platform for this deep, dark, hopped up lager. Beyond the wicked grain bill we carefully layered Cluster, Zythos, and Citra hops throughout this onyx-colored brew, which bring you a memorable and lasting bond of roastiness and hoppiness.

On tap at Petes Place. Pours a very dark brown with a light light mocha colored head. Thick fluffy smooth head. Heavy lacing. An interesting aroma of coffee and bitter hoppiness. A nice hoppy bitterness with grassy pine and grapefruit. A coffee backtone and a dry finish. Very interesting. Wolverine is always a treat. Good stuff.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2015 Sample draft at the brewery. Pours black with a small foamy head, leaves awesome webbing. Aroma is awesome, pine, grapefruit, tropical fruit, burnt toast and light cocoa. Drinks like an ultra thin black IPA. Nice fresh hops with a thin black lager base. Normally I would take points off for being so thin but this was so easy to drink and delicious I will let it go. I grabbed a growler of it to go. Re-rate 2/11/15 - This new batch is very different. It’s no longer thin, it’s medium bodied. The Strong pine taste from before is a lot lighter. More chocolate and roast. It’s listed lighter at 5.4% but actually tastes strong and more intense. I like the older version much better. I’d rate this new batch at around 3.7 or so. I’ll leave my rate where it is since I had it several times and stand by that great batch.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a near black with an off white head. Slight citrus hop aroma but coffee comes though big. Roasty taste. Light mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a near clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a nice combination of dark bread and pine hoppiness with a hint of grapefruit. Flavor has even more of the pine/grass hops with a backing dark bread note. Drinks nicely.
