4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 10/2014. Pours nearly opaque very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, brown bread, vanilla, coconut, oak, bourbon, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, brown bread, vanilla, coconut, oak, bourbon, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light tannic oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, brown bread, vanilla, coconut, oak, bourbon, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged doppelbock style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle sample from b3shine I believe from notes. Pours a hazy auburn brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits, some barrel character, alcohol, a touch thin but the flavor isn’t bad.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle shared by Willrunforbeers. Dark brown color with thin lasting head. Aroma is mild bourbon upfront with vanilla oak, with deep caramel and raisins.
Wow... Pretty impressive brew. The flavor is a mellow bourbon, vanilla and mild oak enveloping a dark fruit and caramel lager. Kind of like drinking a bourbon soaked raisin dipped in sugar. The body is on the leaner side but it’s not an issue with the amount of flavor I am getting from all sensors on my tongue. The rich bourbon flavor is here without any heat. But the ABV does pack a punch to make you feel happy. Damn fine brew!!

12oz bottle with red wax, big thanks to umich03jm. Shared with DanielCoor. 2014 bottle. Hazy dark brown color. Thin off-white, khaki head. Dots and bits of lace. Vanilla, dark fruit in the nose, light spiciness. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Light slick. Moderate sweet taste, light bit of bitter, mild warmth to it, nothing uncomfortable. Pretty solid, tasty ba doppelbock. It works. Has a bigger, thicker chewiness that I like in a doppelbock, and it works well as a base for the barrel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with reddish tint, small beige foamy head, caramel aroma with alcohol undertones, strong alcohol taste with caramel, coffee and sour cherry in the background, medium carbonation, long bitter finish with alcohol aftertaste. Quite strong and shows it!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle. Pours deep red brown with a tan head. Potent smooth bourbon aroma, woody molasses and vanilla. Bourbon is the dominant flavor, brown sugary and woody, though with roasted malts supporting it. Still has some of the lightness of a lager, even with the chewy flavors. It’s pretty enjoyable.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is deep black with a tan head. Minimal lace. Heavy mouth feel that hides the apv well. Notes of dark chocolate, black cherries, and definitely a kick from the bourbon barrels. (2014)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a very dark dark brown color with dark tan nice head. A solid bourbon aroma with a touch of chocolate. A big creamy feel. Actually quite smooth for the strength. A chocolate background with a decent bourbon flavor. The very last flavor is a little wheaty with lager qualities. It’s interesting. Good stuff.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, caramel, vanilla, raisin, light toasted coconut, and bourbon. It pours a dark brown with some significant red highlights. It has a one finger beige head that eventually fades to a thick soapy film. There is some drippy soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate with touches of cocoa powder and light caramel. There is a touch of molasses and raisin in the middle. The finish has light-moderate vanilla, coconut, light bourbon, faint oak, and a hint of roasted malt. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a touch of stickiness in the mouthfeel. Overall, I’d say flavor-wise it’s kind of an Imperial Stout/Doppelbock hybrid aged in bourbon barrels. It sounds like previous year’s batches were a little boozy and hot. This batch from 2014 isn’t. I really dig it.
