Bottle. Poured clear dark copper color with a minimal fizzy head that diminished slowly with little lacing. Medium floral apple aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium tart apple flavor with a medium taqrt sweet finish of short to moderate duration. Solid drinkable refreshing beverage.

Pours deep amber, no fizz. Smells like bourbon soaked, and flambéed, apples. Taste is sweet, apple, vanilla, sweet, hints of bourbon. Medium-bodied with a wet texture and no mouth-carbonation, Woodchuck Private Reserve Barrel Select Cider finishes with a sweet, slight apple crispness.

Draft... Crystal clear, beautiful, textbook-amber pour with no legs. The aroma delivers tons of white oak, accompanied by notes of brown sugar, caramelized apple and vanilla. Full-bodied and syrupy with tingly carbonation. The flavor is bold, sweet and tangy - caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toasted oak and maple, accompanied by a nifty nuance of malic acid. Sweet, maple-syrupy, lightly tangy finish. A sipper for sure.

Bottle into a Snifter. Pours a clear copper hue with no head. Looks like brandy. Aroma of sweet maple syrup, some vanilla and raisin. Taste is similar initially with crisp apple with raisin and vanilla coming through strong. Light to medium mouthfeel with light to medium carbonation. It finishes with the barrel with some prune. And palate stays with the raisin/prune with a little maple. Way different than your standard cider (obviously). Very sweet and rich. But fun at the same time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a transparent caramel orange that dissipates quickly and completely. Smells sweet and cinnamony with notes of oak and sweet apple cider. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Not bad, but overrated, and likely because it’s been bourbon barreled, which apparently makes everything better. Seemingly a light-char barrel.

suggests sweetness from first whiff, along with bourbon in spades. some suggestion of wood. raw apple, with no aldehydes or hint of yeast stress, but nothing interesting either. flavor is unfortunately more of the same, with BIG sweetness, and BIG bourbon. with higher acidity, and more tannins from the barrel, it could work. I don’t see it here; a struggle to drink. nothing offensive, but more jolly-rancher style candy apple mixed with bourbon than anything else.

12 oz bottle into a teku glass. BA has a no-cider rule, so why not? Appearance: Pours a clear copper color. Good clarity. (3) Smell: VERY sweet, all told. The bourbon imparts a powerful vanilla quality to everything, but not much in the way of oak notes or tannins. I also seem to pick up a lot of raisin. A little sweet for my taste, but nicely rich. (6) Taste: Follows the nose well. Massive raisin and massive vanilla give way to a slightly woody finish, counteracted by the bog-standard crisp apple flavor. The flavor profile is powerful and rich...almost overly so. (3) Mouthfeel: This isn’t as bone dry as I like my ciders to be, not at all. The powerful carbonation is slightly concealed by the thickly sweet body. I seem to pick up a very mild burn on the back of my palate, also. A sipper by cider standards. (2) Overall: Not my kind of cider, but it gets the job done. Even compared to regular Woodchuck (or Angry Orchard), it’s really damn sweet. While it fails to be refreshing, it does work as a dessert cider. (12) 2.9/5: A big-ass cider; drink it after dinner
