COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also Bottle Conditioned.
Originally the house beer for Limes Hotel in Fakenham.
Ingredients: Maris Otter; Crystal malt; Goldings hops. Tasting notes: A full-bodied pale amber beer with the rich flavour of Dundee cake. Sultana fruitiness is balanced by a hoppy bitterness, to give a full, but light feel. The finish continues to develop into a warm, mellow glow

Sampled as M&S Norfolk bitter - sweet and fruity. Lacking a bit of hops, but plenty of malt. Pretty good

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2008 500ml bottle of M&S Norfolk Bitter. Gold with a thin white head, slightly hazy; citrus aroma with disturbing farmyard hints; soft and full-bodied with a smooth syrupy mouthfeel; rounded bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Hazy gold with a creamy white head; pear and apple flavours; dry finish. Not very inspiring.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 Update: 06/04/11. Cask - Kings Head Hotel, Hoveton. Really drinkable bitter with good balance on the English hops, just a touch of a toasty, sulphurous quality on the nose. Marmalade bittersweetness on the tongue. Cask - Hog in Armour, Norwich. Pours a clear amber with a 1 finger frothy off-white head. Good caramel malt aromas with a grassy hop balance. Sweetish caramel malt flavours followed by some dry toastiness and a dry hop finish. Soft mouthfeel, fairly low carbonation and a lingering bitterness. (1/1/2010) Initial Rating Date: 9/17/2007 - 6/3/7/3/13 (Cask - Fur & Feather, Woodbastwick)

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2010 Draught (Pickerel Inn, Cambridge) Amber, sparkler head. Lightly hoppy aroma. Zesty bitter taste. Pleasant sweet maltiness. Maybe emasculated by the sparkler. Hint of mushroom. (4-3-7-3-13=3.0)
Rerate: 500ml bottle (M^S) - As marks & spencers norfolk bitter
Nice nutty aroma. Fairly simple bitter taste. However, it excels in the finish - really nutty and packed with resiny bitterness (6-4-6-4-13=3.3)

A Mes rate: Cask from JDW. Golden coloured with a reasonable head. Spicy ginger nose. Nicely balanced with a bitter finish. Reasonably enjoyable considering its comparative lack of character.

Bottle. Hazy amber, big creamy white head, so far so good, but also with big chunks of sediment floating around. Nice hoppy citrus aroma. Good bitter flavours, nice fruitiness and a hint of toffee. Quite dry. Medium-bodied and smooth. Turned out quite nice.

500ml, bottle conditioned, bought from the brewery Pours a clear amber with a nice malt and hops aroma. The palate is just right for this sort of ale and the taste is a good balance of malt and bitterness. Overall, a decent no-nonsense session ale but I have to say that the bottled version is a lot blander than the cask original.

Half pint on cask. Dark golden body with only a small layer of foam. Some promising floral hoppy aroma, but rather light fruity in flavour. Bitterness towards the end. A bit oily and watered impression (Rosary Tavern, Norwich 25.09.2006).
