3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 Update: 06/04/11. Cask - Kings Head Hotel, Hoveton. Really drinkable bitter with good balance on the English hops, just a touch of a toasty, sulphurous quality on the nose. Marmalade bittersweetness on the tongue.
Cask - Hog in Armour, Norwich. Pours a clear amber with a 1 finger frothy off-white head. Good caramel malt aromas with a grassy hop balance. Sweetish caramel malt flavours followed by some dry toastiness and a dry hop finish. Soft mouthfeel, fairly low carbonation and a lingering bitterness. (1/1/2010)

Amber, sparkler head. Lightly hoppy aroma. Zesty bitter taste. Pleasant sweet maltiness. Maybe emasculated by the sparkler. Hint of mushroom. (4-3-7-3-13=3.0)
Rerate: 500ml bottle (M^S) - As marks & spencers norfolk bitter
Nice nutty aroma. Fairly simple bitter taste. However, it excels in the finish - really nutty and packed with resiny bitterness (6-4-6-4-13=3.3)

A Mes rate:
Cask from JDW. Golden coloured with a reasonable head. Spicy ginger nose. Nicely balanced with a bitter finish. Reasonably enjoyable considering its comparative lack of character.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Hazy amber, big creamy white head, so far so good, but also with big chunks of sediment floating around. Nice hoppy citrus aroma. Good bitter flavours, nice fruitiness and a hint of toffee. Quite dry. Medium-bodied and smooth. Turned out quite nice.

500ml, bottle conditioned, bought from the brewery
Pours a clear amber with a nice malt and hops aroma. The palate is just right for this sort of ale and the taste is a good balance of malt and bitterness. Overall, a decent no-nonsense session ale but I have to say that the bottled version is a lot blander than the cask original.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Half pint on cask. Dark golden body with only a small layer of foam. Some promising floral hoppy aroma, but rather light fruity in flavour. Bitterness towards the end. A bit oily and watered impression (Rosary Tavern, Norwich 25.09.2006).

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with almost no head, no carbonation apparent. Aroma of peaches, malt and hops. Flavor of peaches, earthy malt and cardboard, which would be a sign of oxydation. The body is light with an oily texture and very low carbonation. This could have been halfway decent if not for the carbonation and oxydation problem.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2006 Cask at GBBF 06’: malty with caramel sweetness, juicy, ripe fruits, some nutty notes, alongside the malt there is a great balance of refreshing hoppy bitterness, great well balanced session beer.
