Tried this dark ale at Mossend Hotel, Lochwinnoch in July 1994. Cask, handpump dispense. Dark red mahogany in colour with a thick creamy white head. Dry hoppy aroma, short in intensity. Good creamy mouthfeel and superb lacing. Dark malt complexes giving a wide variety of flavours with digestive biscuit, gooey molasses and treacle toffee evident. Roasted hazelnuts in the dry hopped aftertaste along with a sweet butterscotch finish. A cracking session Old Ale for the dark malt fans out there. Well recommended.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2013 Cask. Strong roasted malts emanate from this dark, slightly frothy old ale. Medium body. Nice sweetness with caramel and slightly burnt malt. Low on the hops. Nice. Bottled it’s much more lively, a bit thinner and needs to be poured and left alone for 15 minutes before drinking (3.0)

Bottle conditioned. Pours nearly black. Off white head with short life. Low aroma. Big malt taste, chocolate and caramel. A real joy, although it makes me think of deep winter! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
