3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer is a pale straw yellow with a small, white, fizzy head. The bubbles dissipate to nothing quickly. The liquid is fairly cloudy. Nice lemony, lacto-tart aroma. Mild vinous note with a bit of oak. Yogurt and tart citrus. Maybe more sour tangerine than lemon. Medium funk. Everything blends well. Taste has moderate to medium tartness. A bit more of the pinot noir barrel comes through. Creamy feel with hints of sweeter fruitiness. Cherries, apricots, peaches and tangerines cut with lime acidity. Some wheaty sweetness and body. This bottle mistakenly sat around in my cellar for maybe six-ish months, and based on other reviews, I think that was a good thing. Rather solid Berliner.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours translucent lemony gold with a few temporary bubbles. Aroma is clean with just the slightest of brett notes. Med minus body. Flavor is quite tart and earth/brett with lots of citrus (or something like it) followed by mild sweat sox. Finishes tart, citrus, earth/brett. Other than tart the flavors are relatively mild, but it’s a very pleasant drink. Bet it would be a hit on the Ku’damm. Course they’d probably put a bunch of sugary stuff in it, but ...

Draught at City Beer SF. Hazy yellow color, white head. Sour taste with citrus, tart, wheat, grapefruit, acidic notes and grass. Sour finish with citrus, tart and wheat. Very nice berliner weisse, at least the recent batch is very true to the original style and has no off flavors.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
poured by the brewer at braukunst live 2014. dishwater yellow with a persistent thin head; full-on aroma of cobwebs, blue cheese and garbage juice; loads of sourness, yoghurty with a salty tinge. now i’m left wondering if this is a typical american berliner weisse (i.e. 10 times more sour than the berlin version)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Whoa. Looks like the GABF batch was a dud. The one I had today at the brewery was awesome! The brewer admitted previous batches were a bit off with butyric acid. They switched to a new maltster for their sour mashes, and it’s drastically improved. I’d say so. This one pours a nice yellow color with a disappearing head. The aroma is very clean and tart with some with some lemon, bread crust and light notes of yogurt. The flavor has a perfect amount of fruity, citric acidity with light background notes of lacto. No nail polish remover or bile here. Very clean and pleasant.
