Cask at The Bridge Street Ale House, Newcastle-Under-Lyme. A black colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, a little liquorice, slight treacle and subtle vanilla. Taste is similar of roasted malts, chocolate, some treacle, a little liquorice and subtle vanilla. Light bodied but a smooth texture. A dry, roasted bitterness in the finish. A tasty, smooth stout. Good roasted bitterness with sweet treacle and vanilla balance. Shame the brewery closed and will never have this again.

Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival on the 3rd October 2014. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin tan head. Short note of roast grain on the malty nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt complex gives chewy malt grains with notes of dark chocolate and chicory evident. Short damp earthy flavour present in the hop resins giving a brief bitterness to the aftertaste. Finish is rather dry with roast grains, leather and oak cask notes in the palate. An ok session stout but one of the weaker examples at the festival though.

On cask at The Holy Inadequate, Stoke on Trent. Pours black with a smooth tan head. In your face with roasts, a vanilla balance, hoppy tang. A cracking stout, very moreish.

On gravity at Bristol beef festival, 16/3/2013. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Plenty of chocolate character, roasted malts and a touch of vanilla before a dry finish. Good.

Bottle - Tatton Park Shop. Dry, roasty character with a robust mouthfeel that leaves the coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco flavours on the taste buds. Excellent.

Cask, The Plough, Chelmsford, part of Nicholson’s 40 real ale promotion Aroma is coffee; cream, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, liquorish, Swiss milk-chocolate. Well balanced and enjoyable despite the iffy conditioning.
