On cask at The Holy Inadequate, Stoke on Trent. Pours black with a smooth tan head. In your face with roasts, a vanilla balance, hoppy tang. A cracking stout, very moreish.

Cask, Peterborough Fest 05. Very dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aromas are dry roast malts, coffee with licourice and berries. Flavours are sweetened black coffee, dry and earthy with licourice and pretty juicy fruitiness. Hints of chocolate, too. An addictive stout.

Cask conditioned handpump Swan & Rushes Leicester. A really good looking beer which is black with a beige head. There is coffee, roasted malts and dark chocolate in the good aroma. A very bitter taste follows with coffee and burnt fruit. Pretty good.

Cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 10th Feb 2010. Pure black with an oily, slick feel. Very smooth. Orgasmically delightful taste... well, that’s what my notes say but I suspect I was pretty far gone at this stage of the evening!

Black, small head. Pleasant soft roasty aroma. Full bodied, and tasty, well-balanced English stout. (6:4:7:4:13=3.4)
Rerate: Cask (GBBF2010)
8 Rich smooth milk-chocolatey aroma, bacon later.
5 Black, glorious creamy tan head
7 Retronasals roasty, and quite burnt generally
4 Soft palate, carbonation low. Finish very burnt and a little ashy. Some mashy grains too.
14+ Big, but soft - it’s a cuddly grizzly bear of stouts.

Cask, Telegraph Inn, New Brighton. Deep dark brown looks with a thin tan head. Roasted malt, dark fruit and dark chocolate notes in the flavour and nose with a hint of booze. Nice n’smooth. Dry bitter finish. Tasty, moreish and well rounded stout.

Bottle. Black beer light head. The aroma is roasted, slightly milky and espresso coffee, and the flavour is milky and plainly bitter coffee. Overall a nice beer.

Bottle. Black and flat with no carbonation. Malty with a dry finnish that lingers. Well bottled and pleasant.

Very deep ruby colour - not quite black. Plenty of espresso coffee in the aroma. Roast malt and coffee on the palate. Fairly bitter, finishing on the sharp side. Not the fullest stout but pretty impressive. Cask (gravity dispense), Reading Beer Festival, April 2005.

Cask@Reading BF. A very nice stout. Rich roasted mouthfeel, with fairly dominant mocha and chocolate flavours, finshes dry and quite bitter, really well balanced.
