Fairy tale brew Pot of Gold is the latest in the Shropshire Heroes and Legends series. A smooth-drinking 4.4 per cent bitter, it is brewed to mark the myth of the Bury Ditches fairy who is said to have hidden a pot of gold on the ancient south Shropshire hill fort, high above the Clun Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Anyone discovering a fine gold thread on the site will be led to the long-lost treasure. Pot of Gold is brewed using water drawn from deep underground in the nearby Corvedale.

There is some nice peach in the background somewhere but overall fairly standard fare - slightly sweet malt balanced with good bitterness. Not bad. A bit muddy and bready and smell is unremarkable but overall it is drinkable.

Clear golden colour with a tiny white head. Sweetish floral hops, no bitterness but some sweetish maltiness and caramel notes in the aroma. The flavour is floral hops, mild bitterness, sweet malt and mild woody dryness. Low carbonation. Thin.

Bottled. Golden colour small white head. Aroma is some floral notes and some slight maltiness and some herbal notes. Quite a typical golden ale in many ways, including the flavour. Not much special to see.

Pours clear golden color with a small head. Herbal aroma, some malty notes with fruits also. Slick palate, a bit grainy and somewhat starchy flavor. Boring.

Aroma is rather fruity with lots of apricot. Flavour has apricot, hay, some English hops and grainy tones. Feels dry. Nice, but the flavour is a bit short. Also the growing feeling of English hops disturb me a bit here.
