Commercial Description:
First launched as a seasonal bitter in 1995, Shropshire Lad was inspired by the collection of poems by AE Housman. It quickly proved so popular that we made the beer available all year round. Shropshire Lad is a strong, well-rounded bitter whose cascade of flavours come from a careful blend of selected English malted barley, traditional English Fuggles and Golding hops. It is now our best-seller on draught, and in the bottle.

Cask@ProeflokaalDelft. Citrus and hop pallets aroma. Cloudy, light amber color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, malty, very bitter, very grassy. Very dry mouthfeel. Too hoppy what makes it one dimensional.

Cask, The Coach and Horses, Weatheroak. Still, rubyish and a bit vinous. Malt-heavy but no real depth of flavours emerging. Stale alcohol/almond notes, clinging paracetemol bitterness. Cherry and marzipan all over it. Stewed apple and currant maybe as it warms. Not my style.

Bottled at 5% ABV. Shropshire Lad pours a reddish-brown with a bubbly head. It has a toasty aroma with a mostly sweet malty flavour with hints of berries, caramel and roast.

Århus2008. 50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a creamy and tan head. Mild fruity and caramel malt aroma. Medium sweet caramel flavour with a nice fruity note to it, yet just average flavour. Mild bitterness into the finish.

500ml bottle @ Cardinal. Golden reddish body with a disappearing off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of bitter hops. Flavor is sweet malty, slightly roasted and some caramel. Well balanced body and a fine bitter.
