3.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Hard to believe all this came from a bottle, and from a pale ale. Lots of flavor and depth and staying clear of an IPA finish. Would leave Vermont for this Brewery, only to be called back by Ben and Jerry’s and Cabot Cheese free tastings.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a pretty orangish rusty color, unfiltered. Off white head that diminishes pretty quickly. Not much lacing. Smell is caramel, citrus and mild hops. Taste is nice, caramel notes with pineapple and a mildly bitter hop profile. Aftertaste slightly bitter and citrusy. To me this is quite a bit better than the majority of the ratings I've read.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Pours a very clear copper color with small white head. Faint aroma of sweet caramel malt and a light citrus hops aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, slightly grainy with a light grapefruit hop touch. Lighter body with moderate prickly carbonation.

1.1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 2/20
A - Pours a clear amber with a big bubbled small head. No lacing.
S - Citrus with a kind of rotten buttery diacetyl. Some toffee malt underneath
T - Bitter orange with butter diacetyl. Some strawberry and cherry fruit. Herbal mint comes through towards the and and finishes with sweaty socks and grain like aftertaste.
M - Medium carbonation, slightly prickly.
Well this might of had potential to be a nice APA, but unfortunately the diacetyl is heavy handed and takes over most of the flavors. Pretty bad.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from beer of the month club. Pours ruby with small head. Aroma is interesting. Strong citrus and floral hops mixed with buttery caramel malt. Very buttery smell. Flavor follows the smell closely. Very floral hop flavor here, similar profile to Celebration, but with a buttery caramel addition. Strange finish of malt though. Lightish mouthfeel with adequate prickle from the carbonation. Not bad.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2013 I’m happily out of step with the crowd on this one, I think this is a very solid beer. Cloudy burnt orange color, pungent hop aroma and nice bitter/sour taste without being overpowering.

I like this pale ale. I don’t mind the somewhat aggressive hops and find it to be a refreshing drink

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap in 2010. Didn’t expect too much but it was a good beer. Poured an amber color with a whitish head. Aroma of bread, fruit and a good dose of flowers. Flavor was grainy, caramel with some floral/fruity goodness at the end. I liked it.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Knotty hops ride high over a backbone of butterscotch malts. I remember their brown ale having this feature as well. Caramel amber color, a small amount of lace. Sharp bitter hop flavor, does not contrast with the low lying vanilla laced malts. Comes off as kind of soapy really. Body is what you gather from that. Could be better, although that zany fish seems pretty happy.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a deep golden color with a good sized fluffy white head that shows great retention and a fair amount of lace. The aroma is caramel bready biscuit and a fair amount of earthy citrus hops with enough butterscotch to remind me who makes it. The flavor is bready toffee and butterscotch with an aggressive hop bitterness but little flavor. There’s an off putting mineral mixed with wet cardboard oxidation going on here as well. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick bitter mouthfeel. Welcome to yesterday’s APA. There’s an aggressive use of hops here for the style, but they are all bittering hops so you get that bite mixed with the signature flavor from the yard with the ships. Honestly with so many better beers out there why bother with this one?
