It pours a dark brown yielding a nice one inch white foamy head into my nonic. Some nice spider web yet light foamy lacing speckles the sides of the glass. The smell is spicy having the normal winter spices up front such as nutmeg, allspice and ginger. There is some light brown sugar in the background. The taste is semi-sweet with the previously mentioned flavors and light bitterness coming in through some light hops, mostly balanced. The palate is about a medium, could be ranging closer to heavy, a mostly one and done in a session.. Some light sharpness a bit here and there, nothing obscure. Overall, this is a good winter warmer that I would come back to.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear, deep auburn color with a creamy, off-white head. Sweet caramel and toffee aromas with a hefty dose of spices. The spices dominate the taste with some sweet malt and then a very faint hop bitterness kicks in at the end. Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is very dry.

Dark ruby/cognac color. Faint nose of caramel and baking spices. Robust flavor, moderately spicy, a little sweet. Dry, mildly liquory/hot finish. Quite a bit better than I thought it would be.

(From notes 2011) Drank on tap at Durgin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Light but bright brown in color. Two finger width head, good lacing and head retention. Sweet and slightly spicy aroma. Sweet and malty taste again with a spicy finish. Good mouthfeel. Fairly drinkable. I’ve had better but I have certainly had worse. Serving type: on-tap

On tap at The Copper Door. Pours a ruby red with a thin white head. Scent of sweet malt and currant, slight booze. Very sweet on the palate, some bitterness at the end. More complexity as it warms up. I didn't get the boozy heat at all. I think the abv is nicely hidden. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Decent...very warming from the abv level but relatively uncomplex given how much you are drinking. It’s english in style so I guess that means flat. Fairly sweet, no hops.

Bottle thanks to AirForceHops: Pours a clear deep copper amber with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a rich toasted dark caramel nose with some earthy hoppiness and a hint of black cherries. Starts with pretty good fullness and chewy toasted caramel malts with an herbal grassy hop bitterness and a touch of peat and light oxidation before a drier, muddled slightly astringent bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style, just not as clean tasting as I’d prefer.

The Dan Journal #446. Tasted 2/26/11. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a dark amber maple hue. Bubbled and trace ring of bonewhite head. Aromas of rye toast and citrus fruit. Medium to full bodied with a sweet palate. A nice off setting bitterness to compliment the sweet. Subtle sweet malts with a lot of dark toast and bitter resinous hops. Decent.

Dark brown pour with red tints, beige head that left good thick lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, roasted malt, and citrus. Flavor is very sweet, with molasses, dark fruit and a bit of nuttiness. A hint of hops in the finish. A nice smooth mouthfeel, although a bit watery. The 9 % ABV is hidden well, Thank you AirForceHops. It was a nice afternoon treat.
