shigadeyo (1340), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Jan 12, 2007 Sampled from bottle at the Woodstone Creek Winery and Distillery tasting room...
Woodstone Creek Legacy is still honeywine that’s golden in color. The more apropos term for this wonderful beverage would probably be "honey port" (as labeled on the tasting sheet). Apparently it is a combination of mead and distilled wine. Alchol and a cream sherry explode from the aroma. There is also a lot of alcohol in the flavor, but it really doesn’t burn too much. It’s strong, but the delicate honey, sherry, and oak/vanilla nuances can be found hidden beneath. This mead is quite dry at first, but some light honey sweetness arrives during the finish. This is a great sipping mead that packs a punch, but isn’t overly thick or syrupy on the palate, and has a wonderful flavor.
