2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
I wonder whatís so rare about this Belgian yeast strain... Vanilla and sweet malts suggest toffee and caramel in the aroma. Clear brown body is topped by a low tan head that recedes slowly to ring. Sweet and somewhat cloying with some nutty malt character and dark fruit esters but no real bubblegum or other phenols. Medium body is sticky with low carbonation. Bottle sampled with Altair, beerbuzzmontreal, Cathschlag, Glouglouburp, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Yowie.

One of my favorite styles, and this beer does an OK job of being an Abt. It is quite sweet. Ther eis light sugar and fruit in the flavor, as well as some oak and an alcohol taste. The aroma has simple malt and just a little alcohol. It lacks the complexity or thick and heavy palate of the best of the style.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled from 375 ml bottle in Montreal on Glouglouburpís roof at the tiggmtl-returns/MartinT leaves for Japan party, June 17 2007. Medium muddy brown, thick body with a bit of head, quick-disappearing....caramel-creme aroma is incredibly sweet at first, but soon tempered by some rough dry farmy, yeasty tones....the body is quite sweet as well, the mouthfeel thick but not cloying, a hint of dark, grittier and burnt caramels shows up later as a saving grace...it adds up to a sort of pungent fruitcake quality, and really itís fairly decent, though it just doesnít hold together well enough to be really top-notch in this competitive style....

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared by brewfiend. Sweet caramel aroma. Dark brown body with little head. Taste was mostly malts with a touch fruit. I didnít really notice the oak at all. The 10.2% made an appearance in the finish but other than that stayed hidden very well.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A 12-oz screen printed bottle shared by brewfield, pours a semi-hazy orange amber brew with a moderate/average off white head. Aroma of dark fruit, tart berries, with a touch of yeast and honey. Taste is thick and honey-syrup body with additional tastes of vanilla, and roasted malt. Finish has alcohol character with some sweet berry and even peanut brittle in the aftertaste.

Muchas gracias brewfiend! Murky copper color with no head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and apples. Big toasted malt flavor. A little caramel and slightly fruity finish. The oak did not make that big of an appearance.

Thanks to Brewfiend for sharing. dark cloudy hazy brown. Super rich malty nose with toffee, roasted nuts, and almost a cranberry like sweet. Palate is like the nose, but a little refrained. Kinda watery mouthfeel.
