Retro42 (18), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 1, 2007 Shared by brewfiend. Sweet caramel aroma. Dark brown body with little head. Taste was mostly malts with a touch fruit. I didn’t really notice the oak at all. The 10.2% made an appearance in the finish but other than that stayed hidden very well.

Pours a cloudy iced tea color with a minimal beige head. Nose is sweet fruits and vanilla. Taste is more sweet fruits, caramelized brown sugar, oaky vanilla and a touch of spice in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Interesting brew, like a cross between a Belgian and a barleywine. Thanks Austin! douglas88 (1012), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 16, 2008 Bottle shared, and thanks to footbalm. Pours a murky brown/ reddish color with a very small, almost nonexistent head. A nice nose of wood, yeast, some sweet and sour grapes, caramel and light fruits. The taste was very nice; sweet french oak really stands out, some very nice fruit aspects, light caramel and chocolates, some yeast also. As it warmed this beer became more flavorful and tasty. The body was pretty thin, otherwise a real winner. lithy (555), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 25, 2008 Cool bottle, is this really brewed by Left Hand or just at their facilities? Corked and caged, very heavy glass. Pours a calm dark reddish brown with a slight tan head with modest carbonation. Sweet plummy notes, woody, raisins. Taste is very much brown sugar with notes of plums, yeast and very smooth. Maybe not the most complex quad but a great drinker. Sticky and syrupy with a heavy malty body. Small alc finish and sort of barley wine when warmed. Crosling (1730), Loveland, Colorado, USA Sep 21, 2008 Brick colored dark/brown beer with a small filmy head. Fairly complex nose, with Belgian notes of ripe dark fruit and yeast, along with a touch of oxidation, brown sugar and port-like character. Flavor is well balanced overall, with notes of dark fruit, brown sugar, some cardboard-like oxidation. Lingering tawny-port like character on the finish. For three years old, it’s pretty damn good. I might even pick up a couple more bottles if I see them.
