Reddish-gold hazy unfiltered brew. Pungent aroma of citrus, floral spice, and grapefruit. Decidedly bitter palate with a medium light body. Flavors of hoppy grapefruit give way to a dry finish. Our Hop Back and Double Dry Hop process ensure aromatics that are in your face coupled with an obscene amount of kettle hops that should make all bitter beer fans and hop heads love Wormtown’s Be Hoppy I.P.A.!

Once upon a time I hunted this beer. That beer is no more and so with this new review I’ve finally come to terms with the evolution of a longtime favorite. I’ve been buying this since the early days of the Be Hoppy bombers. Found each release a touch different, but delicious. Loved the cans... the YELLOW cans! I gave them a few releases with the new brewer and brewery to dial this back in, but they haven’t and presumably won’t as this newer profile has been surprisinly consistent though much less enjoyable. So without further complaint, here’s my review of the new Be Hoppy. This applies to the Black Cans and any and all draft releases and of course the new??? six pack bottles. Don’t even get me started on them reverting to bottles, but small ones, sigh. The aroma is surprisingly malty, with vague hints of caramel malt and very subtle floral/earthy hops. The flavor is similar with some decent bitterness but pretty much zero hop flavor beyond the initial fairly meager grapefruit. The beer feels very thin, lacks any lingering bitterness or flavor in the finish and seems to have parted ways with the layer of well balanced roasted barley. This beer used to be borderline chewy, aromatic and flavorful, but now lacks all three...

Bottle, 355ml. A clear yellow beer with a small white head. Aroma is of mild floral hints and hops. Taste is moderately bitter with some carbonation and astringency. Light to medium bodied, easy to drink and with a malt aftertaste that pairs well with a hoppy finish.

Bottle, 355ml. Clear golden with a creamy offwhite head. Aromas of fruity hops, caramel, resin. Medium bodied, moderate to fizzy carbonation. Dry and clean. Medium to low sweet, medium bitter. Delicious roasted and hoppy character into a stinging hoppy bitter finish. Very pleasant.

On tap at Enrico’s Brick Oven Pizzeria (Sturbridge, MA). Color is a light yellow-gold, consistency is mostly cloudy; solid white head that barely fades, significant sticky lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is quite faint, just a hint of piney hops - but oh my how the flavor explodes! Strong notes of pine and grapefruit, some wood and an agreeable light bitterness. Very pleasant carbonation, nice lingering hoppy aftertaste. Very drinkable, an absolute winner.

APPEARANCE- golden yellow, slightly turbid. Big foamy head won’t quit! NOSE- tropical fruity nose. Heavy on the citrus, maybe a bit bit of papaya. FLAVOR- good ipa. Citrusy hop with a bit of bitterness at the end. NOTES- One of the 80%ers. I can see why it rates so well.

Aroma: lots of citrus and hoppiness up front; Appearance: clear, golden pour with white head that dissipates quickly; Taste: follows nose with nice balance of citrus and hops; a bit more on the bitter side; Palate: seems more heavy-bodied than most IPAs with long, bitter finish; Overall: very nice IPA. Would buy again if available and in the mood for a more bitter brew.

Draft at some Irish Pub inside the Boston Westin waterfront. Despite being served in a frozen glass it's still golden with a nice piney nose. Big pine on the tongue. Finished clean. Goes nicely with the fish and chips. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can poured yellow with a white head aroma had the hop tropical funk from either citra or Equinox with also nice floral notes. Taste was a lot of earthy floral notes finishing piney resin dry finish.

Fresh can, 1 week old. Pours a clear gold, medium head. Aroma is pine sap, floral / spice, piss, caramel, pithy citrus, grass. Flavor has a bunch of dry citra, some floral spice / bite. Light end of medium body, but very bitter w/ a lively dry hopped kick. Quite enjoyable.

Can thanks to bigda83! Pours a hazy golden orange with thin off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of resinous piney hops and mild caramel malt. Taste follows, clean and easy for an IPA, a hint of oxidation. Solid stuff.
