COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Wordsworth’s brewery in December 2010.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Northdown and Challenger hops; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Beautiful copper coloured beer with some golden highlights. No head. At nose is grassy and irony. Aroma is very hoppy with hints of fruitiness. Amazing and powerful bitter finsih. 5.6% ABV, A real IPA.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2012 Bottle. Pours clear copper with a small head. Aroma some hops, some malts. But really a very typical britannian ale. (edit) Improved a bit after a fresh re-taste. Not Bad.

Schiuma compatta, birra velata con una intensità olfattiva piuttosto leggera, corpo rotondo, lascia un leggero retrogusto metallico. Birra comunque equilibrata

Copper colour. Aroma has some light hop and malt. For an IPA it’s rather malty and not so hoppy. Very nice though. Crisp, dry taste. Good example of harmony between malt and hop.

50cl bottle, BBE 03/2013. Poured copper color with a nice looking white, dense head. Aroma has hops, caramel malt and some weak alcohol notes. Flavor is similar, quite heavy malty, nutty with more alcohol coming through. Bitter finish. Medium bodied. Decent.

500 mL bottle from Tesco into a pint glass at home. Copper coloured beer, with a fair bit of fizz and an attractive foamy head. Fresh hop aroma. Fruity, dry and bitter, crisp. Looks good, smells good, taste quite live up to the promise though.

Bottle best before 29/03/13, and CAMRA loves this one. Nose with great malt and citric hops, caramel, dusty, earth and toffee, touch of apple juice. Beautiful gradient amber with a soapy beige head. Full-bodied and crisp, hard water and water-sucking dryness. Taste is strong, firm bitterness on toasted grains and faint nuts, heavy caramel. Touch of numbing from the otherwise well-integrated booze, subdued fruitiness. Still a good one, though it’s a little to ’hard’ to enjoy more than a few sips at a time.

cask at GBBF 2011 - amber body with a white head - fruity and hoppy nose - malty and fruity flavour, and a bit citrus in the background - one of the best I got at GBBF this time
