Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Strykzone (5202) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - OCT 3, 2014
Pint glass. A huge off white head takes plenty of time to settle. The second pour had the same result. The beer under it is clear amber. This beer is malt forward and resembles a low ABV barleywine meets English bitter. Hops are somehow European while not really bring fruit. Wood and bread flavors. Some brown sugar, too. This is a huge difference from a US west coast IPA. The finish got thin.

One of the few bottled beers I can always rely on to ’deliver’. Full of flavour.

The beer pours a reddish gold colour, mainly clear, and topped with a 1" off-white head. The aroma was caramel, floral hops, and grains. Not a citrusy note to be noted. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was burnt grains, caramel, and musty hops. Sessionable, but far from outstanding.

Scopey (7868) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 20, 2014
Bottle from Tesco. It pours deep amber with a thick white head. The nose breas, toasted cereal, light spice and earth. The taste is bitter, earthy, spice, mild caramel, floral and toast with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well rounded. Not bad for what it is.

craighill (28) - GERMANY - AUG 27, 2014
Bottle from Tesco, Penarth on 21.08. Pours crystal clear, amber coloured, with big creamy head. Relatively high carbonation. Aroma not too strong, spicy (cinammon) and sweet, almost like childrens medicine. Some broad malty character underneath. Taste starts balanced with bittersweet finish. Not spectacular.

Serving: bottle. Slightly hazy dark amber pour. Large but fleeting head. Earthy hops and caramel nose. Pleasant bread, caramel, earthy hops, and a very slight tang I can’t place. Dry finish. Thin on the tongue but highly drinkable. Certainly respectable.

Picked this up in poland after reading all about it in cams book. good to finally taste it. pours amber with a big foamy head. starts off fizzy but without a lot of aroma. mildly hoppy and peppery. taste is a smooth balance of hops and malts. caramel, pear, spices. its punchy for an english beer but it fizzled out quite fast. i guess literally its an ipa but it feels more like a bitter. anyway doesnt matter, im gonna play darksouls. i never did get past the bit in the crypt so lets fucking goooooooooo
