COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Des malts biscuits et légèrement caramélisés voire mielleux avec une forte astringence de houblons floraux. Le corps est svelte avec une effervescence douillette vraiment agreéble. J’aurais aimé essayé fraichement sorti d’un cask.

Where and how: LCBO, bottle 500 ml
Aroma fresh, crisp tad peppery and zesty hop feel. Nice British bend to it.
Appearance :
Top: larger cap, foamy off-white crown with solid lace on glass.
Base: fine chill haze? amber.
Palate : medium lighter bodied, lighter finish did not feel to be washed out.
Taste: straight and fairly simple set-up. Mild toffee, hint of caramel not too sweet. Hoppy zest goes well with malts. Drier crisper finish.
Other notes quiet drinkable choice.

The bottle says "For true IPA connoisseurs" and it’s not wrong! This beer is stunning! Fantastic dark amber colour with a creamy thick head. The beer has a thickness to it thats missing in some beers. There is quite a malty flavour with a hint of caramel in the aftertaste. Very impressive beer, if you like strong flavours give this a go!

Wow, a rare British IPA that states IPA on the label; yes, right there on the label AND isn’t classified as some other nonsense here on ratebeer. Maybe they haven’t made it to this one yet. Gotta keep low and quiet and maybe they won’t notice. –ssshhh-- A quiet 50cl bottle pours with a clear soundless absolute crystal clear copper body that has thin gold edges and softly supports a cobwebby dirty white head that leaves behind spotty lacing. The modest aroma offers up dusty malts, a resiny smelling spicy hop note and an echo of grapefruit hops right in front of a mineral sort of sensation. The taste does jump at you with a mix of resiny hops and lightly roasted maltiness. The resiny bitterness slowly allows for a peak at the flavor hops that are hidden where I’m getting a light grapefruit and spicy hoppiness. Toward the finish it picks up a mineral sensation to join in on the wavering and fading hoppiness and persisten maltiness. All in all pretty nice where there’s a fairly assertive hoppiness and overtly assertive malt backbone.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Hazy orange brown, big foamy head. Toffee grain aroma and flavour. Bitter aftertaste. More a premium bitter than an IPA. Not bad for a supermarket beer.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear dark amber with a generous off white head. Nose is caramel and bread with only a slight hint of fruit. Sweet malts dominate with minimal grapefruit bitterness and some spice appearing at the end as it warms. Medium slick mouth with average carbonation.
