Marc (476), Yokosuka, Japan Jun 1, 2008 Tea colored amber with a thick rocky head that dissipated into something a bit thinner and tamer. Toffee and herbal almost nutty hop nose. Apple, caramel, nuts, herbs, fresh hop, more toffee, and a touch of raison. Bright brassy mouthfeel with a nice semi sweet tannic finish that turns into white bread. All and all, a good brit IPA
DruncanVeasey (1913), No. 46, Leicestershire, England Jan 5, 2009 Updated: Jan 6, 2009Bottle. What a strange old/young beer this is. Pours deep murky orange misting with sediment, however hard you try. Collared, slick and lacy all the way. Pretty outrageous yeast, hop and solvent aroma, chucking fresh cut green apples, sultanas, nutmeg, pine needles, burning plastic and nail polish remover into the blender. A dramatic entrance immediately reminiscent of the cask P2. Mouth wades in with apple strudel spiciness, pine, sneaking gooseberry, nuthusk, custard, dry roasted and far too much phenolic alcohol harshness. For now. Ive got a feeling that some time under the stairs could mellow this into a far more integrated beer, with an Orval-like pungency of flavours. Nothing like an IPA in the contemporary, US-influenced, sledgehammer of citrus kind of way, but still some pretty concentrated, resinous hop flavours on show. Not to mention that apple custard yeastiness. A snotty young unfinished genius overly fond of solvent. Never drank a beer like this before. EFC1878 (176), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Nov 27, 2008 Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Dark amber colour with tight white head. Superb fruity aroma - a complex mixture of mandarin, plum, peach and more. Beautifully balanced mixture of hop, malt and spice on the tongue with an excellent dry/hop/bitter finish. Exactly the right amount of carbonation gives this a top-notch palate. Compared to the ghastly, asthma-inducing, sulphur dioxide laden monstrosity of the 80’s this re-make wins hands down and is a wonderful beer. Beth101 (186), West Yorkshire, England Nov 21, 2008 Aroma of hops and malt. Dark amber colour with a large off white head. Slight aroma of hops and malt. thebeertourist (2060), Oslo, Norway Oct 18, 2008 Bottle. Copper colour, big yellowish head. Sweet and fruity and grassy hops aroma. Good bitterness blending with caramel malts, a touch of metal adds a bit of harshness, though. Well-carbonated. Quite nice, yet still room for improvement. Bullit (687), Glasgow, Scotland Sep 28, 2008 Copper colour, small off-white head. Aroma has grassy hops and fruits. Flavour has sweet malts and fresh hops. Ends bitter dry. Ok beer.
