COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Bottle. Nose is berry , cereal, biscuit, autumn fruits. Taste is cereal, red berry, herbal hops, slight pepperiness in the lightly bitter finish. It’s a better than average supermarket beer.

Spur of the moment purchase while just looking for something differnt for once. Big bubble pour. Settles to a skim. Plenty of nondescript fruit and plenty of bread with a very quiet bitterness. Light spice. Pretty uninspiring yet very drinkable. As a beer to drink a lot of its perfect.

Pours clear pale amber with two fat fingers of light beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Nose is caramel, stone fruit, citrus, mild herbal and earthy. (6/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium bodied, moderate to low carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (3/5) A little malt forward, but decently balanced for an E/IPA. I still prefer the brighter hops character of the A/IPA style, but this is a decent example of a more traditional IPA. I’d like to try this in cask some time, actually. (12/20)

Bottle - lively brown body with a creamy beige head which subsides reasonably quickly. Aroma of caramel, peach and lemon. Taste of caramel, nuts, light roasted malts, followed by some light grassy hop and light bitterness in the finish. Medium body, medium carbonation.

500 ml bottle. Clear brownish orange, off-white foam mostly fades. Fruity citrus herbal hop aroma. Crisp clean fruity citrusy herbal earthy hop taste, lean lightly sweet caramel malts. Average carbonation, light-medium bodied, moderately hopped. Very tasty proper British IPA. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

A copper coloured body is crowned by a thin white head. There is a nice peachy aroma, backed by a bit of orange citrus, filling my nose. On the tongue, there is a definite sweet citrus and light malts. This is an ok beer, that does a few things moderately well. Of course you can interpret that as it does not do a lot of things very well. A moderately ok beer.

Grainy and slightly grassy aroma, white head with amber body. Medium bodied, notes of hop acids but not too upfront, malty flavour, somewhat mild but balanced.

Pours copper color with a nice frothy lasting head. Smells rather malty. Tastes much the same. Really lacks any hoppy flavor at all. A mild salt flavor as well. Not a bad beer, but not something I’d seek out. Had from a bottle.
