COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Bottle. Amber with a big white head. Muted malt aroma with a small hop note. Flavour is well banlacned between biscuit malt and a pepper hop presence. It doesn’t hold up against modern interpretations of IPA but compared to a lot of English bitter/pale ales it is more than acceptable.

Dobre i ciekawe IPA z Anglii. Piana kremowa i trwala. Kolor bursztynowy, a zapach orzechowo-migdalowy. W smaku zas bardzo tresciwe gozkie i wytrawne z lekka nuta slodyczy w tle. Ciekawe polaczenie i kombinacja smakow. Oszczedna etykieta ale ogolnie piwo jest dobre.

an odd import found at a shop. Its a pretty beer with its clear red color and well nice fluffy white head. Aroma is butter grainy rolls and just a bit of flowers hidden in there. The taste is a mineral and caramel mix. I like the real ale texture of it though that saves this mostly standard offering. Odd how mild the hoppiness is in this IPA. Guess im a spoiled american in that regard.

Poured this from liter bottle. Had a "best before" date of a year from now. Weird. Amber red pour with a lot of white head. Earthy malt aroma. Very uniques taste. Bitter, grainy, cereal, spicy, yet somewhat floral taste. Wasn't what unexpected. Average but drinkable beer

Bottle from Tesco; I’m having a cheap Sunday afternoon beer ticking odyssey £10 for 6 bottles, I’m not afraid to drain pour if I don’t like. Hazy copper pour with a huge off white head, floral and malt aroma, taste of biscuity malts outweigh the hoppiness, some caramel and spice. Decent English IPA, drank the lot.

Pours a rich amber-copper color. Some haze. Big white head that expands quickly with a hard pour. Solid chunks of lace sticking to the walls of the glass. Very pretty beer. Lots of English hops in the aroma; I’m not good at this, but my guess would be Goldings. It has a sweet citrus aroma shot through with a peppery spice. I’m not enjoying the malt contribution as much. The caramel sweetness is a bit limp and doesn’t quite have that luxurious quality of that I love in other English beers. Perhaps, a touch of diacetyl, not that it’s a problem, just a little English twist. The taste adds an interesting mineral note but loses some hop brightness. The malt is still a bit underwhelming. The bitterness seems to have that lasting dry flavor that I think of coming from Burton’s hard water. Still, the beer either needs a richer malt sweetness or a drier profile. The malt bill kinda plays the middle and doesn’t do a great job of it. Good yeasty, mildly bitter finish, though. It’s an easy drinking beer. Mouthfeel is relatively gentle. The attempt to mimic cask ale doesn’t work all that well, but it’s a good thought - I recommend a relatively hard pour and patience. The drying finish helps a lot. Drinks easily. It’s always fun to try a good English beer. Too few make it across the Atlantic.

Decent easy drinker, mild for an ipa, even a british one. Oder was feint and smelled slightly soapy. Copper color, thin, very slight haziness. Beautiful full thick off white head, great latice. Fruity, yet dry, hops come in at the end for refreshing quaff. Medium thin body, nice carbonation. Finish was a bit abrupt.

1 Pt. 9 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a nice cloudy orange with a huge beautiful off white head that stayed on for a long time and with tons of lacing. Aroma of malts and fruit and grains. Taste is fairly sweet fruit notes, malts and grain with a slight touch of hops. Nice, Very drinkable and enjoyable beer.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of musty citrus hops and caramel malts. Dark amber hue with an average off-white head that left good lace. Flavor is medium sweet and heavy bitter. Palate is full bodied and watery with an average carbonation and a medium finish. Overall a decent IPA.
