3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Apparently, according to the bottle, this is the oldest version of India Pale Ale there is. Pours with a ton of carbonation, the quickly expanding foam is almost unmanageable. The head is nice and pillowy though. The nose is weak, sweet malts and a hint of citrus. The taste is surprisingly subtle, with a really nice balance between hops and malts which means its very drinkable. It has notes of citrus, apricot, caramel and honey. I’d get another pint of this anytime, really solid offering.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle from the LCBO. Clear amber colour. White soapy head. Malt, spice on the nose nose, some brown sugar. Clean mouthful. Has some sweet bread taste, caramel comes out as it warms. Mild bitterness. So this is what original IPA tastes like? Worth trying but tame in the bitterness category. Nonetheless enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2014-03-07. Crisp dark orange amber body with a small off white head. 3+ Aroma is pleasant, sort of hoppy, lightly grassy and lemony. Flavour is similar, light bitterness, muted lemon, cereally malt core. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Okay, quaffable but a bit dull. Bottle from the LCBO, Shared by Wilco

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Rubbish. Definitely not representative of a true IPA. No hoppy aromas, acidic aftertaste. Definitely more of an average ale than anything else. Avoid.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a fairly clear orange/amber with good-sized, slightly off-white head. Aroma is toast, light caramel and minerals. Flavour is fairly minerally, definite caramel and toasted grain presence with a little fruity character. Solid, but doesn’t really come across as an IPA hop-wise even in a British way.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
More of an English pale ale. Bottle from LCBO. A bit cheese in aroma, and gummy in taste. Still, smooth and a hoppy finish.Thicker mouthfeel.

NWAF 25 Jan 13. Gyldenbrun. 0 skum. God aroma av mørk frukt. Smaken er syrlig frukt. Litt pepper. Behagelig. Blir litt søt - så syrlig igjen. Avslutter tørt. Innholdsrikt.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 mL bottle. Definitely a solid, well constructed beer, but not what I expected from the iconic British IPA. I had imagined that it would be stronger, hoppier (in a British way), a little rougher around the edges. What this is is a well balanced, moderately hopped, very drinkable beer. Nothing wrong with it at all.

3.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is a classic, the last tangible connection to 1800’s IPA in the sense that it has been made continually since then. Good, natural English flavours, with the mineral note many English pale ales have especially connected to Burton (although Wells IPA, say, shows a similar trait).
I must say too it is consistent, reminding me a lot of the one I first tasted in the 1980’s (except then it seemed to have a more pronounced banana note, almost Belgian).
I like and respect it but I wish the hop rate was higher and somehow I’d guess it was a lot higher in the 1820’s. But we should be glad it is still here.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured copper-amber, clear with carbonation, and good slightly yellow head that lasted very well. Aroma sought me before I sampled directly; malty and almost balanced by spicy hops, inviting. Taste a wall of malts blending to robust hopps bitterness, the right amount for a classic/true IPA. Finish is very long and clean, medium bodied, mouthfeel reminds me of english bitter. Very nice and honest beer.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orange bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Citrus, Blumen. Geschmack sehr malzig, fruchtig herb, leicht nach Kräutern.
