COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

I was a bit disappointed once I tried this beer and realized it was marketed as an IPA...then I saw that it was made by Coors and that explains the lacking quality. This is truly just an average belgian white with more hop extract added then usual. Not an IPA as far as I’m concerned. the hop tastes added and hits you like an artificial flavor. Mild bitterness. No lacing at all....big clue there! Avoid unless you only have 5 bucks in your pocket and you want more liquid than a Coors can has in it.

Bottle at Giraffe. Hazy amber body with a thin white head. Faint lacing. Aroma of orange, stewed tea and pineapple. Flavour of floral, herbal hops. A hint of peach too, with an earthy, peppery finish. Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. A well balanced beer.

(bottle) very hazy amber colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of herbal hops, sweet spices and raisins, with a light touch of caramel, lots of bread dough, chalk and a light hint of alcohol. flavour is mostly sugar icing, more bread dough and herbal hops, with a light touch of vanilla, nettles and some more light alcohol in the finish. medium-to heavy-bodied with lively carbonation.

500 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, amber orange with a medium, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Fruity aroma with caramel malt and a faint bread note. Sweet fruity flavour with caramel malt, a touch of pepper and a dry, bitter, resin finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Ok, but was expecting more.

.5l bottle at Beerville Bar, Belgrade. Darker orange-brown, bubble head. Bitter fruit, too dry finish. Dry cider throughout. Tannic. Not best in bottle I presume, not too interesting for me.

500ml Bottle from Tesco, Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. Branded as a true connoisseur’s IPA but for me there are far better in the style. Some caramel and fruit notes fail to cover the overwhelming "Special Brew" flavour that really shouldn’t be an issue with a 5.6 ABV beer. Disappointing.

Bottle. Nose is berry , cereal, biscuit, autumn fruits. Taste is cereal, red berry, herbal hops, slight pepperiness in the lightly bitter finish. It’s a better than average supermarket beer.

Spur of the moment purchase while just looking for something differnt for once. Big bubble pour. Settles to a skim. Plenty of nondescript fruit and plenty of bread with a very quiet bitterness. Light spice. Pretty uninspiring yet very drinkable. As a beer to drink a lot of its perfect.

Pours clear pale amber with two fat fingers of light beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Nose is caramel, stone fruit, citrus, mild herbal and earthy. (6/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium bodied, moderate to low carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (3/5) A little malt forward, but decently balanced for an E/IPA. I still prefer the brighter hops character of the A/IPA style, but this is a decent example of a more traditional IPA. I’d like to try this in cask some time, actually. (12/20)
