12 oz can bought at the Boise Co-Op. Aroma is roasty, bready, chocolate, licorice, vanilla. Pours inky black, brown around the edges, with a one finger beige head that reduces to a collar. Taste is bittersweet with flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, licorice, bread. Mouthfeel is velvety, body full, carbonation tight. Nice beer.

Can from Roth’s. Black in color. A little light gets through around the edges. Dry roasty nose with a little hint of hops. Coffee and a hint of vanilla as well. Moderate roast up front with quite a bit of sweet vanilla flavors. Very strong on the vanilla. Some roasted coffee with milk sugar and a burnt roasty finish with a touch of hops.

pours clear medium dark brown, red tint, with a nice creamy light beige head offering good retention and lacing. burnt caramel, very nutty - burnt hazelnuts, coffee and cream, some sweetness - molasses and burnt sugars, pepper, resin, metal. light carbonation, medium body - oily and a bit sticky; assertive resinous-coffee finish. not craving the style, but this is decently crafted.

On tap @GarricksHeadPub. Mocha and toasted nuts. Very smooth and rounded -- mild flavour profile. Malt heavy. ABV is quietly hidden. Creamy mouthfeel; slightly sweet finish.

A pleasant balance of sweet and dry throughout. Solid chocolate and roast malt flavor. The beer leaves a silky residue in the mouth, which is odd but pleasant, maybe it has some lactose in there?

12 oz can poured. Pours black with a creamy tan head and lace. Sweet chocolate malt aroma. Flavor is sweet and creamy. Medium body stout. Minimum roasted flavor hidden. Sweet vanilla sneaks in for the finish. Drinks super easy. A little sweet, but good flavor. Good stout here. Impressed with what I’ve had from these guys.

From notes last night. Worthy lists this as simply lights out extra stout. Tap sampler, nice head, good lace. Aroma roasty coffee, vanilla. Taste follows. Not as sweet as the descriptions. Nice dry finish, palate smooth, carbonation good.

Lasting medium creamy off-white head atop an opaque body. Nose of coffee and ash. Smooth milky front with some mid-palate tonic coffee. The alcohol is fairly well hidden while a glimpse of dark chocolate ales a late appearance as the beer warms. Purchased at Penny Farthing in Oak Bay.

Can, picked up on a whim at Homebrewstuff. Dark brown pour, light khaki head. Small bits of lacing. I’m really liking the nose on this... sweet with cocoa and faint vanilla. Elegant. Coffee and coca in the taste, less sweet and emphasis on the coffee and roasted malts. Sort of light in the body, but I wouldn’t say watery. Finishes well; lingering cocoa bittersweet.
