UPDATED: DEC 31, 2012
Name: Colinís Wee Heavy
Date: March 04, 2012
Appearance: clear dark brown, ruby edges, fine tan head, scant bits of lace
Aroma: sweet chocolate and caramel aroma, caramel and vanilla sweetness, pleasant background apples
Flavor: sweet and smokey flavor, sweetness from the caramel malts enhanced by the apple brandy, still plenty of balancng smokyness, apple character melds well with the fruityness of the base scotch ale
Overall: the smokeyness is great with the base beer but detracts once the apple brandy comes into play
Aroma: 7/10; Appearance: 7/10; Flavor: 7/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 15/20
Score: *** /4

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: Shoved into my paw a murky, dark amber-brown body with a splotchy, off-white head.
Smell: Notes of chopped apples, toasted grains, caramelized sugars, with even lighter hints of booze and peat.
Taste: Opens sweet, then, gives over from tart, underlyingly funky apple jelly atop a piece of toast. A little boozy, but itís within reason. A smattering of raisin, but remains apple-y. Very low smokiness. Sweetish, warming, flat finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Overall: Itís okay, though Iíd rather have had the standard Colinís WHSA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brown almost black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma sweet carmel maltiness and a hinto abv. Super sweet, nice warmth, and a tad of sour that could be fruity? Medium bodied with good carbonation. A beer I liked but as I drank into it the sour crept through and pulled at me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On cask at the Atlanta Cask Fest. Pours an amber color with a soft off-white head. Nose is some sweet malt, some sweet brandy, some dark fruit, and a hint of yeast. Flavor is similar- sweet malt and slight smoke strike first, then the brandy comes in to clean up and the yeast cleans up in the finish. Light to medium in body and tasty.
