70 Shilling refers to the old Scottish method of taxation on beer, and taxes were low on this one at 3.7% ABV.  Perfect for those warm days when you want a beer that is not filling or heavy, yet has nice complex flavors (light caramel and toffee in this one) and almost no hop bitterness.

Draft. Poured ruby brown with a medium-sized creamy tan head. Aroma was quite malty, some caramel and earthiness. Flavor was that plus a touch of toffee and tartness, some nuttiness. Medium mouthfeel.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges slowly. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains with some toffee and a hint of caramel. Flavor has a similar feel with sweet grains and bread with toffee and joined by a touch of caramel in the finish. Drinkable.

Clear copper. Really good maltiness, toasted nuts, a little caramel. Light body for maltiness.
