3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Beautiful fluffy head on pour, and nice strong malty aroma. This is going to be good, right? Taste is weak and watery, unexpected as it smelled so good. Nothing is left on the palate either, so I makrked it down for that. I was posed for something great, and got just plain mediocre....

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
First of all, I worked at this brewery years ago and we made a fantastic Franconian Pilsner. That was in the day when the brewmasters were in charge of the production, not the accountants. This beer is but a ghost of what it used to be. The appearance is clear straw yellow with a white foam head, but that is where anything decent ends. Very faint aroma, very thin, watery taste, almost no hop character. I would not call this a Pilsner anymore and because of its low original gravity, it is not even a decent Helles Lagerbier. This, however, is the widespread trend in German brewing: cheaper, lower quality beers, mass produced lagers which have no character of their own and all taste the same. I am disturbed and outraged by this because I know firsthand what kind of beer this brewery can and did produce. And what is worse, this brewery continues to buy up all the little breweries in the region only to close them, fire most of the employees and put out this crap instead of the flavorful beer that the little guys used to make. The craftsmanship is gone, it is all just about maximizing profits at the expense of quality.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clean and sharp straw gold with two fingers of white head and an effervescent carbonation. Nose is nice and soft with bready notes and a touch of sweetness. Herbal notes and a slightly metallic character. Soft flavor with a very very slight bitterness. Crisp with a hint of minerality and grass.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Wurzburg station drunk waiting for the train. Pale gold lasting white head. It’s a little nettle and ascetic on the hop. Lemon sharp. It’s ok quite ascetic though which reduces the drinkability.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: poured from a mini-keg in my Edgestar kegerator; crystal clear pale straw with two fingers of electric white head, with generous lacing. Aroma: clean and bright, with crisp, peppery pilsner malts over a perfectly balanced grassy/floral hop profile. Taste: slightly sweetened saltine crackers, a bit of black pepper, slightly herbal (grassy) notes. Finish: clean, crisp, a little spicy, with lingering peppery zing. Notes: Great pilsner. Keg goes very quickly during baseball season. Sessionable, good body. Bought because it was one of the cheapest mini-kegs at Perfect Pour, and glad of it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Just enough hops to add bitterness & some interesting spice notes in the finish. Grassy, and a little grainy. Malts are smooth & in the background. The definition of a session beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: OCT 16, 2013 Draught@Gasthaus Roter Ochse, Seßlach Jul2013. Decent enough pale thirst-quencher, bot not much of a match against (or after) the 2nd Hausbier on tap, Seßlacher Kommunbrauhaus’ Hausbräu. Still feels artisanal with some character, but more of a gentle sessioning Helles than a Pilsner, even by Bavarian standards.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rich and lingering Noble hops accentuate this pils. Middle notes are a touch sweet, although it still pulls off the crisp finish of a Bavarian pilsner. Full mouthfeel. An excellent Bavarian pilsner.
