sstackho (242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 24, 2008 500mL bottle purchased from LCBO. Consumed in Feb 08 with a best before date of August 08. Pours a darrk copper with some head and not much carbonation. Aroma is weak. First taste feels a bit thin. It does get better, with some reasonable maltiness and a touch of spice in the aftertaste. Surprisingly light for 6%.
Homer321 (63), Rockledge, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2008 overall an ok beer. mild spices, none overpowering. The bottle I had was at least 8 months old, so maybe it lost a little, but it wasn’t that impressive, very bland. mullet2007 (115), Newfoundland, Canada Aug 12, 2008 Bottle, thanks to beerbill! Pours a deep red to regular brown colour with a tan head. Smell is fairly faint, mostly malty, not much hops to speak of. flavour is very sweet, and a little bit bitter. Not much flavour of hops, but plenty of bitterness. There is a bit of roastiness apparent. Carbonation is low, but nice. It’s a touch watery, but not too offensively so. ericandersnavy (99), denton, Texas, USA Aug 5, 2008 bottle thanks to girlfriend. poured a cloudy amber with a beige head and good retention leaving some lacing. aroma was sweet, bananna, and spice. flavor has some spice, caramel, and clove. overall not bad. english strong ales are one of my favorite beers and this one is pretty good. espenra (97), Oslo, Norway Aug 4, 2008 50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. It poured a dark amber colour with a medium creamy head. It has a sweet aroma and smells of toasted malts, caramel and cinnamon. The flavour is smooth and spicy and tastes of caramel, cinnamon and dark berries.
It has a short aftertaste. guzzler67 (1132), Hanover, Maryland, USA Aug 1, 2008 Murky, dark amber appearance with a average size beige head and a fair amount of lacing. Caramel malts pair with ripe fruit in the aroma. Earthy taste is seasonal spices, dark fruit and toffee, with enough hops to add interest. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel that turns a little drier as it finishes. Rescued from the bargain bin at Stateline (Elkton, MD).
