COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: pasteurised.
Previously sold as Circle Master in the UK.
Traditionally craft brewed in Oxfordshire using organically grown English Barley Malt and Organic Target Hops. Scarecrow is a wonderfully refreshing Golden Ale evoking lazy, hazy days of summer in golden meadows & ripe barleyfields. A winning combination of tart citric fruit flavours perfectly balanced by a rich biscuity maltiness and rounded off with a spicy bittersweet finish.

I peaked at other ratings and I see I'm not alone. My original comments were "either skunked or a lot of pilsner malt in an ale." Mostly malts, a few hops. Nothing exciting.

Bottle. Thanks Luke.. Pours hazy yellow with thin white head. Aroma is apricots and biscuits. Thin, watery mouthfeel. This one didn’t do it for me, although I like the organic concept. I suspect that we will begin to see a significant increase in the quality, and quantity, of organic beers in the near future.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2004 500ml Bottle. Again the nasty Wychwood smell was detected on opening this bottle. The organic tag was used to sell this beer, possibly should have been a warning that this beer is no good. Again fairly citric, with some spicy, sweet, hoppy flavours. Overall a poor beer.

Pale, hazy orange, hops and fruit in the aroma, taste is a touch spicy and citrusy. Not especially interesting at all.

Brilliantly clear, dark gold with a medium white head that lingers well. Aroma is butterscotch backed by esters and earthy UK hops. Some hints of fusel. Esters and butterscotch follow through in the flavor, which is backed by a pretty decent malt and crystal character. Tail is a bit dry, along with more butterscotch and some nice crystal malt. Definitely much better since they went to brown bottles!

Nice colour. No head. Sweet but with an off that I cannot quite describe. A little hoppy and yeasty aftertaste. Expensive.

Although I like the beer in general, all of their products seem to taste the same. I would have a hard time distinguishing this one from the "blonde ale." Quiet malt presence, a little toast and very little hop character.

Bottle. Poured a milky golden yellow with a fairly large, thick head. Aromas of flowery hops and biscuit dough. Fairly smooth in taste and mouthfeel, very creamy with some slight off-notes of malt, with some slightly tart hops in the end.

Pours darkish gold with a thick white head that lingered. Smells of bread, hops and raisins. Flat, light body. Not exciting at all. Some malt and hops with a bitter finish. Not impressed.

I'm surprised at some of the ratings! I don't think they're drinking the same beer I am... The clear bottle probably lends itself to spoiling. The bottle I had was very nice, though a little on the light side. Similar to Bluebird Bitter, but not as good. A few extra points for being Organic!!
