The taste is smoother and sweeter than hobgoblin showing some toffee flavor and aroma. BeerloverEJ21 (131), Georgia, USA

An opaque dark orangish-brown color, very frothy. Not much of an aroma. It went down smooth and had a pleasant taste. The flavors were very balanced. It was neither overly bitter, nor overly bland. I really dont know why this beer wasnt ranked higher, but I guess its all about personal taste. slang (410), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

Never much a fan of pale ales, the first few sips agreed w/ this prejustice, but the more I sipped... the more my mind changed. Short lasting head atop of an original orangish tinned ale. The paleness of this beer is smoothed by a very slight citrus addition. Second glass had nice lacing. Fuck your 2.85 rating! This is a good beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Pours light amber into an English pint. Off-white pancake head slowly recedes. Sour lemon and beer mung aromas. Creamy caramel with a crisp hop finish. Maybe a little mild, but enjoyable nonetheless. Sincere (145), wichita, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2006 Pours a murky orange, minimal head with decent lacing despite head size. The smell is sweet and floral, with a bare hop nose to it. The taste is sweet, smokey, and earthy all at once, with a grainy malt flavor dominating the endtaste. Very bubbly to the palate. An excellent bitter. bcasper (4), bakersfield, California, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2006 i just like the smoothness and the good hoopy flavor this beer has to ofer. Pours your typical nice amber ESB colour with a large off-white head. Aroma is really nice, better than I was expecting, full of piney Styrians hops. I like British hops. Some caramalt under there too. None of the back-of-a-garbage-truck aspects I get with some really bad British Imports. Flavour is decent, much better than I expected. Lots of British hops upfront, making way for some tasty caramalt, and finishing sweet with some sweet fruity esters. Very moderate carbonation which tends to be a good thing by my tastes. Nothing out of this world, just a good, well brewed ESB. A style that more often than not fails to impress me, but in this example I found a good one. Not much wheat malt to speak of, but that’s not typically something I look for in non-wheat beers anyways. Solid brew all-around. matt7215 (1002), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
