2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled 26/10/12. An amber coloured beer which poured with no head. Sweet and gingery with cleaning products in the nose. Sweet and fiery ginger in the mouth. Apart from the kick of spice it’s a bit sweet and poppy.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Gold in colour; thin and fairly fizzy. Sweet with a mild to mid ginger burn. There’s not a lot else to it and the sweetness grows as you drink more. Definite alcopop territory here, but more drinkable than most alcopops though.

Very bad beer. almost disgusting at moments. I like ginger but in this beer it’s just not right. seems like nothing matches in this beer.

2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
This beer has a great smell and wonderful front taste, but the after taste is quite saccharine. A nice novelty, but not a beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
[5721-20130820] Bottle. Gingerale grains aroma. Clear, copper orange body with a quick foamy white head. Sweet ginger grains flavour. Medium body. Nice ginger characteristics but a little too sweet for me, I’d rather have a shandy. (6/3/6/3/13) 3.1

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Hazy amber/orange color; Light to medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, yeast, fruit, & ginger; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, ginger, and fruit; Finish is fairly spicy; Way too sweet - but decent if you like ginger.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Spicy and fiery ginger countered by citrus sweetness. However the sweetness combined with yeasty flavour is too much for my liking. OK as an occasional beer for something different, but couldn’t drink two in a row.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
500 ml bottle bought at Jasons Food & Living in Hysan Place, Causeway Bay.
Clear deep amber honey colour; One finger head and crumpety white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Good sticky lacing and fizzy small carbonation; Very sweet aroma of light ale malt, with strong ginger roots, ginger candy, Canada Dry, sugar, spices, lemon and thin grass; Strong sweet taste of very light ale malt, with very strong ginger roots, strong sugar syrups, strong spices, cream soda, light caramel, light bread, yeast, lemon, moderate bitter hops and sharp grass; Close to light body, thin but syrupy palate; Mouth feel is pretty much an alco-pop - cream soda-ish and slightly cloying - which overwhelms the light caramel Ale base. Luckily, the syrup is sugar and not corn so it doesn’t hurt my throat (okay!), plus the very strong fresh root ginger and hot spice taste give a good counterbalance to the sweetness. The spicy ginger is perhaps the strongest I’ve tasted so far, but to me it’s fresh, spicy, quite fiery and tasty. Notable bready and yeasty presence so to tell you this is indeed a beer, but the sweetness is really poppy… Hoppiness is lemon and thin grass in nose. Citrus and sharp grass in taste. Bitterness is moderately strong, very notable for such sweet beer for an abrupt, sweet-bitter finish; Slightly dry after taste. Very sweet and very spicy to mouth.
Comments: Yes, this one is very sweet, very gingery and spicy in an orthodox beer sense, but it has a proper light Ale-base with decent yeastiness, ginger root is strong, fresh and lovingly spicy, plus some good hoppiness. Like a really fired-up Canada Dry, if the sweetness is cut down by half, this one will be a really good Ginger Beer. For now, once is enough.
