note666 (155), Eindhoven, Netherlands Jul 12, 2008 500 ml bottle. brown colour. fading head. very nice taste, as good as a bitter gets ... cellar (261), Dublin, Ireland Jul 1, 2008 Clear, brown, no head, ligth notes of caramalt, liquorice, and chocolate. Sweet and littel bitter, llittle watery in finish. jjuf1853 (175), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle pours a clear, dark amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt and some hops. Flavor is sweet at first followed by a decent amount of bitterness. Good balance overall between the two. jmw141 (71), Canton, Illinois, USA Jun 30, 2008 12oz bottle pour. Pours dark orange/ruby red with a thin light brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, some fruits, and slight hops. tastes slightly flat with light sweetness up front and moderate bitterness in the second half. This one is pretty bitter. Not much else going on other than the bitterness, but I like it.
Note: My local small town liquor store started carrying this because the owners son raved and raved about it. He even likes it so much he got the hobgoblin tattooed on himself! VitaminR (239), USA Jun 29, 2008 Slightly burnt raisin bread with chocolate sauce. Reddish copper brown color with a hint of red, smallish head that dissipated quickly. Slight clovey sweetness, noticeable hop bitterness to balance. Fizzy carbonation, seemed a little thin, finish was decent, almost a hint of bananas? OK, not bad, but not earth shattering.
