Traditionally Crafted Legendary Ruby Beer.
Hobgoblin is strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.
The ruby red coloured Hobgoblin is full-bodied and has a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character.

Draught (handpump) @ ’The Bear and Staff’, Bear st, London, UK. Red brown, little sparkle, minimal lacy head. Malty aroma with bitter chocolate and some mint. Neutral taste - very correct, but not so distinctive. Good fruitiness and light bitterness towards the end. A touch of coffee. Flat, a bit powdery palate.

A dark ruddy ale, slight head which dissipated; aroma of burnt toffee; taste of a nice caramel note and a mild bitter finish.

Smells of chocolate and fruity vanilla. Almost see through but very dark brown in colour. Clean and flat on the tongue. Really pleasant tasting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint, one little finger head. Mahogany colour. Strong smell of roasted coffee and malts. Tasted woody with some coffee. Smooth enough. Decent pint but not one to seek out again.

AROMA: chocolate, caramel, hint of licorice, roasty APPEARANCE: brown, clear, minimal head TASTE: medium sweetness, lightly bitter PALATE: light body, thin feel, soft carbonation OVERALL: aromas are quite faint and the thin palate makes this beer miss the mark.

I think this is what I had. In Hobgoblin bar in tokyo, hobgoblin dark cask on tap. Darkish, quite rich and malty. Somewhat watery, but very decent overall.

Appearance - very dark, ruby, beige head leaving plenty of lacing. Aroma- malty, a bit of fruit. Taste- smooth, medium bodied, malts, slight roast, dark fruit hints. Not as complex as the bottled version.

Dark, almost porter coloured with a nice off-white head. Flavours are subtle - licorice, roasted malts. All very gentle with no strong hop flavours but a really tasty Burton type beer. I like it.

On tap at the Shakespeare, Coventry. I prefer this from a bottle, maybe needed to be warmer. Reddish, little aroma, taste OK with plums and caramel but not enough of it.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2005 Very interesting beer. VERY strong bitter flavour. Not something i could drink a lot of, quite fizzy. Gives me a bit of a headache, id recommend anyone to try it though. good slogan ’afraid you might taste something lager boy?’ Very dark looking with a dark head.
