Traditionally Crafted Legendary Ruby Beer.
Hobgoblin is strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.
The ruby red coloured Hobgoblin is full-bodied and has a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2010 1. Cask Handpump at the Penny Black, Northwich (JDW) 04/11/2001 Dark red coloured with fruity and earthy aromas. Bitter hop finish. 2. Cask Handpump at the Sedge Lynn, Chorlton (JDW) 03/07/2004 Mid brown coloured with a fruity aroma. Crisp and smooth malt finish. 3. Cask Handpump at the Roebuck, Northwich 28/12/2008 Some hop aroma. Mid brown coloured smooth on the palate and fruity with a crisp and slightly dry malt finish. 4. Cask Handpump at the Roebuck, Northwich 17/10/2009 Some hop aroma. Small white head. Copper mid brown coloured and fruity with a little bitterness in a crisp full malt finish. 5. Cask Handpump at the Wheatsheaf, Sandbach 02/01/2010 Slight malt aroma. White head. Mid brown coloured with some alcohol present. Fruity citrus flavoured with a dry and bitter malt finish.

Cask, William Wygston, Wigston. Copper red with a dense cream foam. Aromas are molasses and cream with stewed apple. Some hints of berry with a light roast character. Flavours are sweet malts - caramel and toffee with some juicy fruit. Earthy hops on the finish. Decent.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014 Cask conditioned - no sparkler. Aroma is of fruity blackberries, the colour is a deep reddy brown, no head. The beer is a bit thin in the mouth for its strength, but has a good sweet berry fruit aftertaste.Score 3.4

Pour on tap at Old Chicago, dark reddish brown pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of some sour grain, caramel, toffee, hints of spice, slight cardboard, just not the right tastes in here. Taste is similar, some sour grain, cardboard, some slight sweet caramel, toffee, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter.

Cask hadpump quite regularly at the Hobgoblin on the Cowley Road. Dark reddish strong bitter that is quite malty and fruity, it is quite a busy beer flavour wise but has never been my favourite of the Wychwood stable.

The White Lion, Tamuff. Chestnut with a tight beige collar. Sulphur, caramel, slightly sourish stone fruit, a faint dusting of choc. Mellow, mild-like, dunkelish stillness. Alright, but a bit drab. Could use a richer or roastier depth of flavours.

A Mes rate: I have consumed many pints of this recently as the Hobgoblin Pub is round the corner frm where I work in Baker Street. Fruity aroma with slight sugar. Mahogany body with reasonable tan head. Surprisingly hoppy and floral given the colour and nose. Notes of lemon and vanilla too. Sweet yet hoppy finish. So so.

Pours clear brown with a light tan head. Aroma of toffee, biscuity malt and light fruit. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask-conditioned at the Hobgoblin, Bristol. Chestnut coloured with a decent off-white head that left plenty of lacing. Red fruit and sweet malt aroma. More fruit in the flavour before a decent bitter finish. Ok.
