Very good ale.. I would say a winter drink. Full of flavour. Abit darker than I like.

Wat heb ik me vergist in dit bier zeg. Het was totaal niet mijn ding vandaar de lage score. De fles daarintegen was wel weer erg mooi.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 Cask @ Bankers Draft, Bedford. Clear, mid- to dark brown with a reddish tinge, lovely thin off-white head. Malty caramel aroma with hints of hazelnuts, cola, redcurrant. Some astringency. Taste is initially sweet, with sulphury bitter notes in the finish. Bitter and almost slightly salty aftertaste. Good overall but unbalanced. I should stress that this rating is for a pint served im very good condition, a luxury many drinkers not be afforded with a national brand product such as this.

Draught at the Green Lion Inn. Clear redbrown with a beige head. Aroma medium malty (caramel, roasted) and hoppy. Flavor light sweet and bitter. Medium body

On tap at the Shakespeare, Coventry. I prefer this from a bottle, maybe needed to be warmer. Reddish, little aroma, taste OK with plums and caramel but not enough of it.

Rich flavour with an almost smokey smell, a hint of chocolate after taste, and slightly bitter taste. Very nice.

edsspoon (303) - Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 19, 2014
Ruby red with a thin off white head. Good retention and good lacing. Aroma is caramel, sweet malts, chocolate and hops and floral notes. Taste is slightly fruity, with caramel and chocolate. Medium bitterness at the end with some toastiness and grassy hops. Slightly sweet. No carb, medium body. I found the bottled somewhat watery but probably nicer.

Appearance - very dark, ruby, beige head leaving plenty of lacing. Aroma- malty, a bit of fruit. Taste- smooth, medium bodied, malts, slight roast, dark fruit hints. Not as complex as the bottled version.

Had on cask in Philadelphia at cellar temp. Almost no aroma, but a great caramel and estery taste. If you see this beer on cask, get it.

Une valeur sûre dans un pub anglais quand on ne sait pas quoi prendre. A goûter au moins une fois :)
