Brown with yellow tint. White short lived head. Sweat malty aroma. Sweet and bitter on the tongue.

The cask was on good form, but strangely it was not much of an improvement over the bottled version. Very rare for a British beer where the two forms are usually like night and day. I haven’t had much if any Marston’s cask beer in the last several years, so maybe it has to do with the cask doctoring that people in CAMRA complain accuse the big nationals of doing? Cask breathers or pellet capsule conditioning or something like that? Or maybe it’s just the massive drop in gravity? I’m sure this was better last time I had it (back in 2004 ish). Still not terrible by any stretch. The brown ale flavours come through nicely. Was served too cold at the Museum Tavern - to be fair the casky character did improve slightly as it warmed. But there is a certain blandness. The hops lacked strength, and the malt lacked strength and complexity for a beer this dark.

Cask at Beefeater in Portsmouth - too light of a beer for my tastes, but has good roasted complexity

On cask at Last Post, Longton. Can’t believe I’ve not rated this before, it’s everywhere! Pours red brown with off white head. Malty bitter with a light spice and hop finish. In good condition it’s quite nice so a bit of a fall back beer in Marstons pubs.

Pint from the mailbox Lincoln. Deep dark Amber colour with a tight white head. Aroma has sweet malts. The taste is too but a touch watery.

A classic English bitter which comes across with big toffee and nutty notes. Light and thin in mouthfeel, goes down very easily, with enough a faint hop presence to keep things ticking along.

This beer left everything to the imagination. No head to speak of after pouring from the bottle into a glass and a malty taste that never left the palate. Cute picture on the bottle though.

Piana: Beżowa, piwo nalane "na płasko" - warstwa ok. 3 mm. Bardzo gęsta, drobnopęcherzykowa. Bardzo szczelnie oblepia szkło. Kolor: Klarowne miedziane. Zapach: Bardzo owocowe. Przewijają się brzoskwinie, czerwone jabłko, dojrzała gruszka, morela, śliwka mirabelka. W tle nuty toffi i kwiatowość. Smak: Dość wytrawne, potwierdzenie owocowego aromatu. Delikatnie podwyższona kwaśność. Tekstura: Dość cierpkie i ściągające, ale w granicach komfortu. Ciężkawe, pozostawia ściągający osad. Nasycenie: Minimalne.

Smaken fřlger aroma, litt lav bitterhet i avsluttningen.
