Deep orange amber ale with a creamy white head. Crispy herbal malt aroma with caramel notes. Caramel malts with nutty notes, with a lighter body. A decent ale.

intial concern was skunk....clear bottle and all, and how many units do they move? maybe or maybe not...sam smiths doesnít usually skunk. this was average average. not enough hops and under malted, almost watered down?? yet it had a nice taste and was clean on the tongue.

Draught at Isabellaís in Dubuque, IA. Clear amber color with foamy tan head. Smells and tastes of caramel with a hint of floral hops. Also some dried fruit and brown sugar undertones. Slightly metallic aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2006 The aroma is like super sweet cola with toasted malt, caramel, and medicinal hops. The appearance is a deep red brown and the head is small but persistent. The flavor is complex with cherries, raisins, toasted bread, coffee, and brown sugar. This one is almost too sweet for me. The palate is just about right. Bitter aftertaste. This is a quality beer but there is just something about the taste that I am not crazy about. Still this is not a bad beer.

A fairly strong beer that has a chocolaty colour as well as aftertaste. Head stays a long time and looks real good. Not bad at all.

NOt really my type. It was dark, and with an ale colour, like the New Castle one. BUt it was too hopy, unnacesary, perhaps. Almost no foam, and tiring too.

well i was expecting a bit more from this. even for a bitter the taste was rather plain. Canít really describe this, except that it is excedingly plain.

Bottle. Pours medium amber/brown with a big, thick off white creamy head. Head stays around for a while too, real pretty. Aroma slightly bitter, malty, with apples. Bitter smell, like a red delicious apple. First taste is light, apples, caramel, tasty malt, maybe hazelnut. Light bitterness on the back of the tongue, increases as flavor disappears. Feels a bit on the thin side, but the maltiness on the tongue makes it feel a bit creamy at the same time. Like 2 percent milk. Aftertaste leaves you a ghost of hops on the back of the throat and tongue, but disappears, finishing clean. All that being said, there is a little metallic hint in every part: aroma, flavor, finish. Not unpleasant, but noticeable. Still a pretty tasty beer.

A deep red color with very little head. Very little taste jumps out at me. This is very suprising. There is a little of an alcohol nip, but not to the point where it is detrimental. Another rater mentioned a metallic hint and I agree.

Iíve tried this on several occasions, most recently on tap, and I will not be influenced by my initial, horrible experience with an infected bottle in 2004.

Served as an amberish/red/brown with a small head that laced all the way down the glass. Nutty, malted aroma which dictated the course of events for the flavor. Medium-bodied, with a malt-lean... mostly sweet and nutty with just a hint of metallica at the finish. Thinner than Iíd have liked, but not too shabby.
