0.5L bottle. Pours clear ruby red with a small, off-white head. Really different aromas: lychee, caramel, sweet fruit. Flavor starts mild sweet with some tartness, middle is herby hop flavor, then a long, herby hop and roasted malt linger and some smokiness. Medium-light body with a thin yet creamy mouthfeel and average carbonation. Overall, aroma REALLY stands out. Very unique. Flavor, on the other hand, is not that noteworthy. Still, very drinkable.

440ml can, thanks to Nova for bringing this back from the UK! Date on bottom of can reads 31 07 15 71 (is that a date? Maybe without the 71 yea..). Clear red orange color, kind of brown and toasty. Good finger and a half of off-white head. Leaves good thicker lace. Looks great. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Mildly slick. Moderate sweet taste. Light hint of citrus. Very mild bitter. Kind of a creamy, cream (sweet corn), light caramel, kind of cookie-like aroma. Interesting. Moderate toasty caramel, mild spiciness. Some citrus fruitiness to it; dried fruit. Nice hints of milk chocolate. Another nice, smooth, creamy english bitter. Iím starting to understand that in these "bitters", itís not really the hops that shine, but the malts... really interesting, nice, and impressively full-feeling malt bills. Thank you Nova for sharing these!

"well balanced by UK standards. Thereís a nice hearty malty aroma and flavor here, but not much else. More hopping to really balance the beer, but that wasnít the point. ok session beer, no more, no less."

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2014 500ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Dark amber clear color with a small beige head which does not dissipates completely leaving a thin layer and many lacings around S: Smell is very discreet, basically roasted malts and earthy hops T: Follows the nose: Roasted malts and earthy hops. Classic English bitter M: Very light body and low carbonation. Delicious bitter aftertaste D: High. Again, classic English Ale, a good one. [ BA Review @ 12/27/2010 ]

It became one of my favorites right after drinking it several days ago. Great choice for ale fans, I think!

.5.2%ABV. Ruby Beer. Nice light head. Settles into a creamy layer of fine creamy foam. Color is a rich brown red. Beautiful nose of light malt which. Just shy of sweet with a nice carbonated tang. First mouthful is full of rounded acidity. Almost lightly vinegary. It is usually this quality of ruby beers that puts me off. My tastebuds somehow catch the full tilt vinegar experience and it just ruins the beer for me. This one settles quite surprisingly into a nice wine-like palate with table grapes with the hint of the fresh tannin-like mouthfeel of pinot noir grape skins. Quite a nice gentle finish, but it is still after all a ruby beer and so in the end, just not quite my thing.

In my mind, a classic; I remember buying a bottle early in the 2000ís purely because it was British ale with a neat label. My guess was that it was just gimicky, but worth trying for the creativity, yet it turned out to be brilliant (consistently so, even all these years later), and is one of my firm favourites. This is a great British ale; no, it isnít quite a Sam Smithís or Timothy Taylorís, but itís close, and it certainly (usually) doesnít cost as much either. The aroma evokes the dark forest image the brewery likes to use - dark fruit, chocolate, a hint of earthyness. The flavour profile follows in suit, with chocolate and dark fruit in the front, with a moderate hop presence in the finish. This is quality stuff, and certainly (in my opinion) the best widely available British ale, at least in Canada.

Daarnaast ietwat rokerig. Fruitig en zacht. Iets te waterig voor mijn smaak.

Clear ruby brown color. Medium off white head. Aroma is roasty, raisin, and toffee. Mild hop aroma. Flavor was mostly malt. Roast, dark fruit, and toast. Medium bitterness. ---Rated via iPhone
