0.5l bottle from Britishtore.hu. Nice, thick and creamy head, brown body with a hint of ruby when held against light. Foam has malty, somewhat sour and somewhat bitter taste, sourness also detectable in aroma. Taste is dominated by "British" maltiness, whatever that means. Well, it means mildly roasted malt, some caramel, moderate bitterness and also some unidentifiable fruitiness. Well balanced, well composed. Smooth, silky carbonation. Still, there is some moderate but unpleasant medicin-like bitterness in it (fairly common in some brown British ales) which prevents this beer from becoming a favourite for me. Very good and complex beer, just not my style.

500ml bottle. Clear dark ruby colour with a creamy tan head. Slightly sweet malty aroma, hint of lightly roasted malts. Flavour is malty with a lightly roasted hint to it, dark fruits, and a light hoppy bitterness. Bitter aftertaste.

Taste bitter at the end, aftertaste strong but not too good, light body and basement aromas. Brown and clear colour. Easy to drink but not in large quantites.

Classic British beer. Beautiful deep red colour with frothy off white head. Aroma of toasted summer pudding: doughy, fruity and rich. Flavour is autumnal stewed fruit, with a perfectly balanced hoppiness. Aftertaste is pleasingly sweet but with a deep bitter bite. Not overpowering but complementary. Itís a heavy beer: not alcohol wise but in taste. Kind of like a Christmas pudding. Delicious and warming but you can eat too much :-)

500ml bottle - Appearance: clear, ruby red with a creamy off-white head that lingers with minimal lacing. Aroma: fruity esters, bready with roasted under tones. Taste: plums, caramel, toasty. Medium to high bitterness that lingers. Good malt backbone that compliments the bitterness. Mouthfeel: medium body, low carbonation. Finished sweet and bitter. Overall: a reasonably good bitter ale. Ruby appearance interesting. Could only finish a single.

light-bodied, sweet, caramel, quite thin, low carbonation.a mere shadow of its cask self, which in turn has diminished in recent years, shame

The best of a brilliant bunch. Lovely beer bottled or cask. Nice fizz and light head, lovely ruby colouring, and very drinkable. No real difference between cask (4.8%) and bottled (5.2%).

Oaky charred wood flavor. Not overly smooth has a small bite on the tongue but tasty and light enough to have two.
