[Bottle (500ml)] Can’t believe I’ve never rated this, weird. Pours a deep amber-red with a large long-lasting frothy off-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, light grassy hops, toffee and bready notes. Decent flavour of caramel malt, dark fruit, light grassy hops and toffee. Average bodied. Not a bad beer, a decent Bitter.

Couleur brune, reflets ambrés, très légère mousse. Nez caramel grillé, note légère de fruits rouges/fruits noirs. Gout caramel legerement grillé, bonne amertume anglaise, houblonné citron, malté, note fruitée voir réglisse en fin de bouche. Bien balancée. Corps bien rond. Super bière! super buvable

330ml bottle served in a snifter. Pours clear mahogany with a modest, semi-durable head. Aroma: raisins and toffee with biscuit and bread base. Flavor: Light grassy and herbal hop presence but dominated by toffee, bready and dary fruit elements. Slightly sweet overall but decent bitter/sweet balance. Feel: nice smooth mouth feel; good carbonation.

Deep ruby color with medium fluffy grey head. Floral hop notes, not too fruit-aromatic some caramel malty taste in there as well. Well-balanced malty bitter taste, caramel and bitter chocolate. Also has that super-smooth UK ale mouthfeel. Very decent well-balanced UK red ale, one of my favourites. Also one of the beers that awoke my interest in ales.

0.5L bottle. Pours clear ruby red with a small, off-white head. Really different aromas: lychee, caramel, sweet fruit. Flavor starts mild sweet with some tartness, middle is herby hop flavor, then a long, herby hop and roasted malt linger and some smokiness. Medium-light body with a thin yet creamy mouthfeel and average carbonation. Overall, aroma REALLY stands out. Very unique. Flavor, on the other hand, is not that noteworthy. Still, very drinkable.

440ml can, thanks to Nova for bringing this back from the UK! Date on bottom of can reads 31 07 15 71 (is that a date? Maybe without the 71 yea..). Clear red orange color, kind of brown and toasty. Good finger and a half of off-white head. Leaves good thicker lace. Looks great. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Mildly slick. Moderate sweet taste. Light hint of citrus. Very mild bitter. Kind of a creamy, cream (sweet corn), light caramel, kind of cookie-like aroma. Interesting. Moderate toasty caramel, mild spiciness. Some citrus fruitiness to it; dried fruit. Nice hints of milk chocolate. Another nice, smooth, creamy english bitter. I’m starting to understand that in these "bitters", it’s not really the hops that shine, but the malts... really interesting, nice, and impressively full-feeling malt bills. Thank you Nova for sharing these!

"well balanced by UK standards. There’s a nice hearty malty aroma and flavor here, but not much else. More hopping to really balance the beer, but that wasn’t the point. ok session beer, no more, no less."

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2014 500ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Dark amber clear color with a small beige head which does not dissipates completely leaving a thin layer and many lacings around S: Smell is very discreet, basically roasted malts and earthy hops T: Follows the nose: Roasted malts and earthy hops. Classic English bitter M: Very light body and low carbonation. Delicious bitter aftertaste D: High. Again, classic English Ale, a good one. [ BA Review @ 12/27/2010 ]
