mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 28, 2007 [179-20070105] 500mL. Earthy bark aroma with faint notes of flatulence. Clear, ruby amber body with a medium-lasting creamy and bubbly off-white head. Flavour has malted barley notes, lightly toasted. Medium-full body that’s initially a bitter feel and eventually smoothes out. Interesting aroma and nice colour but flavour seems wanting. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Feb 28, 2007 Bottle. Amber to copper colour, small off-white head. Aroma is full of burnt sugar, a little liquorice, some toffee, and a faint otuch of earthy hops. medium bodied. Quite bitter and also a bit salty finish. graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Feb 27, 2007 Interesting aroma. Me and my roommates finally decided on cranberry juice. Fruity taste as well with a slight slight bitterness. Pretty good. Would probably be best with some sort of dessert.
JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Feb 27, 2007 Pint can: Clear, medium/dark brown color with smallish off white head. Aroms ia full of toasted caramel, hint of cherry and pear. Flavor is malty, slightly nutty, lots of tosted caramel, bit of vanilla and cherry. Finish is relatively sweet. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Feb 27, 2007 A damned fine bitter, tasting of dark malty goodness awash over cherry and nut notes, with a backstop of hops to keep it honest. Pours a lovely amber shade with a respectably creamy head. The hops that come in at the finish make for a pleasant counterpoint to the fruit in the body. A damned fine brew. RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Feb 26, 2007 Bottle from LCBO. Pours a red-brown liquid with little to no head. Nose is hit with a hint of roasted malt, barley and hops. Taste is of caramel, bitter fruit and malt. Mouthfeel is quite thin and there is a light bitter aftertaste which disappears quickly. Not all too impressed. But it isn’t too bad. frizzzzle (64), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Feb 25, 2007 Pours a dark coppery brown, slightly hazy. Head is slim. Smells of yeast, tin, banana, dark sugars. Flavor is nice and mellow, mostly sweet character with some spice and slight alcohol zing. Finish is drier, with some pleasant hop flavor lingering. Overall, mild and enjoyable. Thumbs up. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 24, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of dark malts, including chocolate and raisin notes and lemon sourness. Pours a clear brown with a red hue, moderate amount of beige head, and thick legs. Very sweet, malty flavor. Roasted malt and cherry tastes. Sweeter than I prefer. Bitter and sour hops noticeable in the finish, but only barely. Full-bodied and smooth in the palate. Unique, bourbon-like texture. This is an interesting and unusual beer. It’s not great, but it’s well worth trying. To me, it tastes and appears more like a brown ale than a bitter.
