500ml Bottle. Aroma: The aroma is light fruit, caramel malts, and some nutes Appearance: Pours a dark orange-caramel color with a small head Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, it has mostly malty flavors and minimal bitterness Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a smooth feel, soft-to-average carbonation, and a clean finish Overall Impression: This is certainly a solid beer. Though there really isn’t anything special here, it works well, drinks nicely, and is all around enjoyable.

Intense sweet caramel malts, spices, grain and sweet bread malts. Clear, dark amber, medium, creamy, off-white head. Light sweet. More sweet grain and bread malts, caramel, spices, soft carbonation, medium bodied, lightly bitter finish. Decent ESB, nothing too complex but quite solid. Bottle from Wine Rack, Chiswick.

Bottle. Copper body, small head. Weak aroma, I get flower soap and some red berries. Body is on the thin side. Sweet and sour taste with some light Fuggles in the finish. Too watery and the hopping feels industrial. Could have been a landmark beer in the past but in this form it should not belong to any "must drink before you die" list at all (as the tags here indicate). Rather poor.

So this must be the real Champagne of Beers - holy carbonation. This is a darker ruby that has more bubbles than the taste can handle. Negative points for wasting the "Hop-Goblin" naming pun. Of course this would have required hops and a truly different flavor of beer but still...

Pours nice and black! Little grapefruit taste but overly carbonated which spoils the experience!

Pours nut brown with high off-white head. Aroma is caramel, grapes, some wood, oak, malts, toffee, nuts. Taste is caramel, something sour, herbs, light toasted grain, fruit sweetness, red grapes, light toffee, grass, some medicine bitterness. Quite nice beer!

Butelka. Piwo barwy ciemno miedzianej, klarowne. Piana koloru złamanej bieli, puszysta, drobna i obfita, dość trwała. Ładny lacing. Aromat nikły, estrowy, lekko słodki, karmelowy, z nutą alkoholu. Smak dość wytrawny, słodowy w typie chlebowym, tostowym i nadal wyraźnie estrowy i ciut alkoholowy. Kontrowany jest wyraźną ale umiarkowaną herbacianą goryczką, pozostawiającą ziemisty posmak. Średnia pełnia, odpowiednie nagazowanie, pijalne.

Hobgoblin poured a dark brown body, amber when held up to the light. Decent carbonation with a thin head that left a little lace. Aroma had hints of banana, chocolate, and malts. Flavor also of spices, chocolate, toffee, licorice, and friuts. Mouthfeel was o.k. with a slightly bitter finish. Overall it was a pretty decent beer and i would try it again.Originally rated on 10/17/08.

Pours clear dark ruby body with small sized, slightly off-white head. Smell of malts, caramel, toffee, and licorice. Herbal. Medium body, softly carbonated. Oily texture with somewhat dry mouthfeel. Mostly bitter taste with some caramel sweetness. Aroma of malts, yeast, caramel, licorice, toffee, nuts and herbs. A bit woody. Long, dry finish. Overall, nice brew. Tasty one.
