2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dreadful branding and bottle design. But it’s ubiquitous and I think this is because shopkeeper’s think that real ale drinkers and goblins are a good match and maybe even the same thing. I once got hammered on this stuff with the builder that lived next door, and to this day I’ve never had it since.
Anyway - aroma is dark and leathery malt, book lined shelves. Taste a little thin at first and the rich and quite satisfying - good balance of bitter and sweet. Finish not bad. Marked down for appearance as the head quickly dissipates and you are just looking at a dark flat liquid in a glass. Overall - not bad. Not exactly complex. There are better beers of the type but I won’t look down my nose at it any more.

Amber-red colour, medium head, nice lacing. Aroma- dominating dark burnt bread, cereals, hay and plum. In contrary tastes refreshing, a bit sour, fruity, low-medium hoppy bitterness. Not bad.

Pours a dark deep brown with light head. Aroma is woodsy , toasted malts, caramel, and some nutty undertones. Somewhat bitter, earthy, floral. The malt is creamy and good, with full on caramel, and some yeast in the finish.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
11.2 oz bottle into pint glass: loose foamy head, reduces quickly down to half a finger. A semi-sweet fruity aroma with a hint of citrus. Very sweet and quite hoppy. The malty finish has lasting power; I don’t go for this kind of beer usually but I could session this if there was a keg on hand. Pleasant. 3.5

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a brown color, rather light, topped with a fairly decent beige colored head. There is a mild roasty aroma, some nice caramel and chocolate are there too. The taste is slightly sweet and roasty, followed by nice caramel, coming together with a light bitterness. Very enjoyable and smooth.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not bad, caramel and a bit thin, hops at the end but not shining. Nothing too exciting but refreshing enough, sippable and worth trying it out. Its a staple beer that won’t be frequenting my fridge too often. There’s better examples around. Should be fruitier!
