Dreadful branding and bottle design. But it’s ubiquitous and I think this is because shopkeeper’s think that real ale drinkers and goblins are a good match and maybe even the same thing. I once got hammered on this stuff with the builder that lived next door, and to this day I’ve never had it since. Anyway - aroma is dark and leathery malt, book lined shelves. Taste a little thin at first and the rich and quite satisfying - good balance of bitter and sweet. Finish not bad. Marked down for appearance as the head quickly dissipates and you are just looking at a dark flat liquid in a glass. Overall - not bad. Not exactly complex. There are better beers of the type but I won’t look down my nose at it any more.

Clear, dark copper colored beer with really fair and long lasting head. The head is about one finger thick. Mostly caramel aroma. It’s malty. It’s quite bitter, but it could be more. A little bit sour. Astringent, rough texture, medium carbonation and light-to-medium body.

Bottle. Chilled. Pours brown amber with medium to high head. As it is being poured strong malty aromas. Aroma is malts, caramel, a bit of fresh fruits and reminds of bread. Palate is smooth and creamy with a full body. Taste is bitter chocolate, alcohol and malts.

Vinx (72) - ITALY - JAN 15, 2015
Very clear amber color, small compact white foam (as this style requires), nice hoppy aroma of citrus gently accompanied by the intense mature fruits (prune above all) given by the malts. A subtle really well balanced toastiness. Maybe too carbonated to be a bitter. Though pasteurised really a good one.

Pint bottle share. Appearance: finger of tan head, copper color, clear, good lacing. Aroma: alcohol, medical/band-aid, caramel, fruity malt. Palate: full body, average carbonation, slightly cloying sweetness, caramel. Taste: caramel and fruity malt sweetness that is pretty cloying into a floral hops finish, but with a lingering cherry type fruit finish on the back of the tongue. Overall, very interesting, but not amazing in my opinion.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2015 Deep redish-brown pour with clingy white head. Nose is all malt and slight caramel. Bright semi-sweet body with lingering malty finish. Very smooth and way too drinkable.

nice dark brown color, a bit cloudy strong, high, beige, creamy head! full body, creamy taste, but it’s kinda boring, just malt in aroma...

Rich and dark ruby colour, usually a bit flat from the bottle and without much of a head. Lots of flavour, very tasty.

35 cl bottle, around 2.90€. Dark ruby red color, clear, thik creamy offwhite to beiege head, excellent lacing. Some winegar right off the cap then quiet nose overall. Aroma is roasted/chocolate malts and pale malts blend with caramel and smooth nice english hops, woody aftertaste with fruity overtones. Brandyish alcohol already in the finish, feels like ABV is much higher. Soft carbonation, mild taste neither too sweet or too bitter, souish. Low carbonation, medium bodied, easy to drink. Quite nice ESB.
