Dreadful branding and bottle design. But it’s ubiquitous and I think this is because shopkeeper’s think that real ale drinkers and goblins are a good match and maybe even the same thing. I once got hammered on this stuff with the builder that lived next door, and to this day I’ve never had it since. Anyway - aroma is dark and leathery malt, book lined shelves. Taste a little thin at first and the rich and quite satisfying - good balance of bitter and sweet. Finish not bad. Marked down for appearance as the head quickly dissipates and you are just looking at a dark flat liquid in a glass. Overall - not bad. Not exactly complex. There are better beers of the type but I won’t look down my nose at it any more.

Amber red/brownish beer with small and somewhat sticky off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt and some dried fruit. Taste of caramel, malt and some hoppy, bitter notes that lingers for a while. Not particularily interesting - some unfortunate metallic notes as well. Above average though

Really nice red colour, pretty long lasting head on top and surprisingly a lot of lacing sticks to the glass. Aroma has syrup, caramel malts, light roasted notes and sweet malts. Taste is sweet and malty, syrup is there too and maybe some wooden flavours. Medium body with medium carbonation. Pleasant surprise, expectations were not much for this so it exceeded my expectations greatly.

Superbe couleur, belle mousse.

Bottle 50cl. Clear deep ruby brown, small frothy tan head, small frothy light tan head, diminishes after a while to a thin layer, light lacing; aroma sweet malty, roasted, bit smoky, dark fruits, brown sugar, some licorice, some chocolate, hint of laurel; taste moderate sweetbitter, roasty, spicy; medium body, oily to creamy texture, soft carbonation, finish bittersweet, roasted malts, nutty and fruity notes; overall a solid and well-balanced bitter.

Transferring some earlier reviews from my blog to RB. Märts 2014, mingi pood Londonis Bethnal Green Roadil. RB hinde järgi võiks eeldada, et enim on auru pandud just kujundusele. Valades sügavalt vasekarva, tume-tume ja ilus, vahtu tekib korralikult, kuid kaob aktiivselt mullitades kiirelt, jätmata klaasi seinale jälgi. Lõhn on mandariinine, metalne ja veidi iirisene. Tundelt ergas ja suht tugevalt karboniseeritud; maitselt kergelt karameljas, kuid mitte otseselt magus, samuti metalne, humala mõrksust eriti tunda pole, kokkuvõttes peaaegu isegi ebameeldiv.

Bottle, 500ml. Pours a very dark clear amber brown. Head is short, off-white, quick to fade but well lacing. Scent is not strong, aroma of sweet fruits and malt. Mouth feel is medium-light, lightly carbonated and slightly creamy texture. Taste starts a little sweet, with some sweet dark fruit flavor and sweet dark malt. Then quickly turns quite bitter, with dark roasted bitter malt and a bit of herbal bitter hops. Nice bitter-sweet interplay, more to the bitter side, but also quite sweet. Very fruity and some interesting background flavors. Nice, not very heavy, slightly warming, good for sipping beer. After taste is quite dry, but with some leftover sweetness and herbal hops.

A nice ruby colour accompanied by a floral hoppiness in the nose. The first sip adds a maltiness, not too strong, with a slight hop aroma in the back of yout mouth. A perfect beer for all who love a bit of a sweeter note.
