Dark copper in color with dense head. Fruity and malty, both take over the palate. Not bad, but not great either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap: Off-shaded, brown-ish body with minimal, soapy gray head & the smallest touch of lacing. Woodsy aroma, toasted malts, light caramel, & strong nutty undertones. Bitterness on the tongue crescendos front to back. Earthy, floral, but only lightly... The malt is the real show stealer, here. Nutty, full of stale caramel, yeast finish. Lasting bitter aftertaste. A little tangy. Grew tiresome after half the glass. Not really my thing.

Deep red to brown color, well lacing head. Aroma of citric fruit, leather, herbs, brown sugar. Medium body. Bittersweet taste. English herbal finish. Well-made.

Classic English ale with light beige, creamy head and brownish copper colour. Malty, bit smoky, nutty aroma with hints of wood, apple, leather and raisins. Nutty maltiness in the mouth, bit toasted, very drinkable with rather subtle, herbal hop bitterishness in the finish. Nice, I should taste this from the cask when I have the chance.

Transfer from BA review on 6-5-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours an amber-red colored brew with a thick two finger off white head. The head has a nice level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a good level of lace. Smell- The aroma is biggest of dark fruit smells but has a nice presence of caramel and a bready aromas as well. Mixed with these smells are some lighter notes of an earthy and grassy smell as well. Taste – The taste begins with a smooth bready and doughty flavor with hints of roasted malt and some dark fruit. As the flavor advances, some caramel comes to the tongue along with a bit of nuttiness. The nuttiness is mainly of a hazelnut like taste which actually bring a tiny bit of bitterness to the tongue as the fruit flavors seem to fade toward the end. The light bitterness is not from the nut alone however as other flavors of an earthy hop nature join into the taste to leave a smooth and very pleasant flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker side for a beer of only 5.2 % abv with a carbonation level that is rather on the lower side. Overall – This is a rather tasty and very satisfying beer at only 5.2 % abv. A nice one to try for sure.

Aroma of sweet bourbon, roast malt, a touch of vanilla-ish caramel, some savory hops. Appears deep copper red, minimal foam and lace. Tastes a lot like a red ale, gently roasted malt, savory oregano hopping, a slight cereal sweetness. Palate is ordinary. Overall, enjoyable.

Ciemny rubinowy kolor, czerowne refleksy. Piana na jeden palec, małe i średnie pęcherze, brudno biały kolor, ogólnie całkiem estetyczna i z lacingiem. Aromat: słodko, karmelowo, słodowo, ciemne owoce. Niezła mieszanka, przede wszystkim zapowiada dosc slodkie piwko. Smak: jest słodkawo, herbacianie, są ciemne owoce. Ciekawy bitterowy, gładki posmak na finiszu. Goryczka niska. Przyjemmy bitter.

Bottle into glass. Gorgeous deep red colour. Nice lacing on glass. Smells of caramel malt and stone fruit. Nice slight bitterness and sweet malts. Wicked beer. Delicious. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Poured from a 330ml bottle. There is a big fruity ester, fruity maltiness, sweet caramel and light toffee, a very subtle toasted bread crust note. This is nice and easy drinking. This is exactly what I expected from the bottle and description.

Aargh can’t believe hadn’t rated this. Bottle at the Village. Ruby brown colour, if that’s possible. Retains a fuller boozy mouthfeel than the new lower abv cask (did someone realise if you lower the abv you can sell more???) Strong malty, slightly fruity, well balanced spicy hop. I actually quite like the Hobgoblin, reckon it’s one of those beers which would score more highly in a blind tasting if people didn’t know it was kind of ’big brewery’ these days.
