Pours red with an off-white head. Smells of raspberries, roasted malt, and subtle caramel. The flavours are similar, but bigger. It tastes of raspberries, has a strong plum flavour, slight hop bitterness and a roasted malt finish - very balanced. Clean on the palate despite the big flavours.

Bottle from Wegmans. Pours clear ruby / brown with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is quite herbal, spicy, definitely some caramel maltiness but the British hops shine. The taste has a nice bitterness, plenty of caramel malty flavors, a touch of a roasted character. Decent brew.

Hoppy; malty. Pleasant and better than I expected but not a star. If it's there I'd drink again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear beautiful rich garnet when held to light. World class lacing and retention, outstanding head volume. Light, but complex, nose of biscuit with notes of sweet chocolate and a touch of earthy hops. As it warms, subtle notes of dark fruit appear. Almost medium body with a nice smooth texture that is almost creamy in the finish. Superb carbonation with a nice bit of effervescence in the middle and a tight prickly finish. While not a typical ESB, this one is outstanding. It hits the bitterness marks with a nice herbal and earthy bitterness over a solid malt backbone. It exceeds typical levels of complexity by providing notes of chocolate, toffee and a light fruit. Balance is perfect. The finish is a slow fade of mild bitterness over a charred grain note.

-from the bottle- English fruity yeast, pepper, floral and some leather notes. Sweet, yeasty, earth and citrus finish. Overall: Meh. Almost Belgian in character, and that is probably unintended.

Pours a dark leather brown with a lovely reddish hue and highlights, good creamy head with some retention and lacing. A decent cover of head stays throughout. Mild aroma consisting of toast, toffee, and British hops, in that order. Mild sweetness pretty well balanced by light hops with floral and earthy notes. Seems like it's going to finish dry but the real finish turns wet and watery first with light carbonation then finally finishes with lingering chalky hops. Overall a very nice beer but IMHO far from excellent. Bottle was purchased half a world away from the brewery so storage duration and temps could be off. If it had a bit more of the floral hops and a slightly heavier mouthfeel I might love this beer. It is highly attenuated and dry with a bit of hardness in the water which I usually love.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Pours dark ruby, with a long lasting cream head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, dark fruits, nuts, earth..Taste is much the same. Used to be a far better brew, but still palatable.
