3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
50cl bottle from Systembolaget. Best before 2012-03-31. Batch 1060. Like the regular Hobgoblin this pours an amber colour with a medium big creamy head. The aroma is a bit different though. Itís a bit sweeter with notes of malts, nuts and toffee. The flavour is rich and powerful. Notes of roasted malts, nuts, toffee and caramel as well as some fruity notes. Not much hops. Overall a beefed up version of the regular Hobgoblin. Try it if you get the chance.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle. Poured a dark copper-amber with an initial one finger - though fading - beige head. Mid to dark fruits, toffee & caramel, toasty malts, demerara sugar & bread on the nose. Quite big & bittersweet on the tongue. Has pasteurised elements coming through but the sweet toffee, nuts & caramelised brown sugar dominates. Medium body, some warmth in the mouth with soft to medium carbonation & a medium duration bittersweet malt finish. A lot richer than when I had it on cask. Had a nice, crisp edge when chilled to reduce the impact of the ABV.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle. Dark copper colour with an even layer of sand coloured foam. There are some red flecks that come through when held to the light. The. Aroma is a bit of a non event, while the flavour is spice and dried fruit. The alcohol cuts through the flavour. I was expecting a bit more from this.

3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beautifully rich, strong ale with an air of prestige about it. Satisfying and mysterious, much like itís progenitor.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml brown bottle. An amber brown beer with an ample dense cream white head. Nose is sugary sweet with notes of raisins and plums together with flowery hops and a hint of alcohol. Taste is medium to full bodied fruity malts with a medium English hop finish. Lovely smooth easy drinking palate. Like a turbo charged Hobgoblin.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Light grain and yeast aroma. A nice, foamy head sits comfortably atop this reddish brown pour. Fairly bready flavor with some sweet malt, hops, and molasses. Flat on the palate (how English). Balanced and drinkable, but a little watery.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark, flame orange coloured beer with a thick off white head. Roasted malt aroma is followed by a slightly grassy hop element. Full-bodied mouthfeel. The taste follows on from the aroma, only in reverse! The hops come through initally, resinous (which could also be put down to the alcohol), grassy, a touch citrusy and quite bitter. This is then followed by a slightly sweet, biscuity malt flavour. Both of which are present right through the long finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, plum, light cherry and a hint of earthiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, plum, cherry and light pipe tobacco with a smooth dry lingering fruity toffee finish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
a sucker for special releases. Odd as an American to think that a 6.6% abv beer can be called a strong ale. Color is full caramel amber. Aroma is a touch toffee and pumus soap and malt. taste is light butteriness with some sweetness and mineral quality. Probably better enjoyed in a pub.
