Bottle. Dark copper colour small head with a little lacing. Toffee aroma. Taste is of malts, caramel and small kick of alcohol. An OK beer in the wider scheme but not of the high standard set by other ESA’s.

Not so storng but very nice to drink. It is very nice to find differences between the bottle and cask versions. Nice foam and features.

Bottle, LCBO. Dark copper, big thick creamy head. Dusty, fruity aroma - notes of raisin, bread, caramel malt as well. Taste - earthy bitterness up front - really earthy. Sweet linger. In the middle it is sweet, dry - lots of malts happening here and some odd hops, which I assume are sovereign hops from the deScription. Not really my hop, but they work here and make this one unique. Alcohol well hidden and the soft body is pretty good, just a tad watery. Not a bad effort.

Sajnos a Cascade kevés benne :). Finom, érdekes, összetett. Nagyon jó!

Pours a deep reddish brown with a huge fluffy beige head that persists forever and sticks lots of lace to the glass. Smells of toffee and butterscotch with a hint of caramel and brown sugar. Hints of earthy hops provide some balance, but this one leans to the malts side of the equation. The flavor is quite sweet with toffee in spades along with brown sugar and caramel batting cleanup. Hints of earthy hop flavor, burnt sugar and mineral water attempt to provide a balance to the sweetness but its not enough. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Decent enough beer, but a bit on the sweet side.

Clear brown, a little red with a soapy, off-white head. Scent is malt, bready and a little fruity. Taste is caramel, fruit,malt...toasted bread.... Dry finish with a hint of alcohol. Smooth and tasty.

Whole Foods, Bowery 50cl ($6): Pours a light brown with a light tan head. Aroma is mostly malty, with some toffee, and a moderate dosage of generic English hops. Taste is butterscotch with a minor amount of bitterness throughout that culminates in the finish. There is also a minor aftertaste. Not one of the better ESAs.

500ml bottle purchased for $4.99. I used to love hobgoblin back before I really got into craft and was mostly drinking British ales so i thought I’d try this for nostalgia’s sake. Dark ruby red, creamy off-white head. Aroma of malt vinegar hits me almost immediately and this is what I usually pick up from British ales, not a fan. Flavor is very fruity, malty, not bad at all. Overall I wish I had my $5 back because this just isn’t my cup of tea anymore. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-21-2012 16:14:51

500 ml bottle poured clear brown with a 1+ finger brown head. Head has decent retention and leaves some lacing. The aroma is rather unremarkable and a tad subtle, but with a good rich toasted malt component and more than a hint of dark fruits. The toasted malt is a major part of the flavor too, but there’s a clear hop presence. The flavor also has a bit of alcohol and a hint of fruit. Rather smooth; medium+ body; semi-dry finish. O: improved a bit with warming.
