Bottle, 0.50l. Clear mahogany color with medium creamy off-white head, very nice lacing and soft visible carbonation. Aroma of caramel, cereals, pumpkin, dust, grassy hops and alcohol. Taste starts with light sweet caramel, follows by notes of wood, grainy malt and dark fruits, mouthfeel is mild spicy and alcoholic, while finish is medium bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Surprisingly good, just strong enough and pretty palatable...

Taste of raisins, toffee, caramel. Aromas of figs and raisins, caramel, earthy hops and malt. Decent but I prefer Hobgoblin.

I like this style of beer and I like Hobgoblin, especially from the bottle. I’m not sure this is much better that the standard Hobgoblin ale but it’s good, in a classic Englisg bitter way. Dark brown with red tones, a medium body and little lasting head. Pleasant rather than powerful aroma, with plums, figs and nuts in the taste before soft toffee comes in, and a slightly bitter closure.

Pours brown with medium head. Smell is gentle, resembles slight apple notes, little hint of yeast smell. Taste is full, slightly carbonated, little coffee aftertaste. A nice specimen!

ContemplateBeer (1581) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - SEP 5, 2014
Aroma: Some typical English nuttiness with pipe tobacco and fig newtons; a fair amount of fruity esters for an English Strong Ale. Appearance: Murky dark brown with a foamy tan head that settles into a thin, mostly still skin. Flavor: Nuttiness is more subtle up front with some fig hanging around; a little more blunt force towards the finish. Alcohol is more apparent, and something like tobacco just sits on the tongue, going nowhere. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, astringent finish. Overall: Didn’t get into this one.

50cl bottle from Saveur-biere.com An amber/copper body with a beige head. On the nose, toffee, caramel, intense malts and hints of bubblegum. On the mouth, it kicks off with sweet notes arising from the malty character followed by caramel, toffee and sublime English hops providing the right touch of bitterness. The finish is rich in toffee, hints of chocolate, caramel and mild bitterness. It becomes almost liquorish in the end.

Bottle. Dark amber color. Malt and a hint of salt in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty salty flavor. Chloride. A very soft bitterness. Hint of confit fruit. Not great.
