500ml bottle. Dark reddish brown, decent head. Sour-dough aroma, not much hops. Taste was sweet, bready, a little sour in the finish, a little dirt, but not dirty. Medium body. Overall, it was like halfway between a bitter and a barley wine. Full bodied and flavourful enough to drink, making it somewhat better than other offerings I’ve had from Wychwood.

Pours a nice dark brown with a frothy head. Smells very, very malty with a slight hint of alcohol. Taste is of sweet grains, bread, hay, cinnamon, and sweet cocoa. It is very very palatable. Very smooth and crisp and refreshing.

rauchbier (3598) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 25, 2014
Bottle, from Morrisons. Deep chestnut gold, thin shortlived off white head and gentle condition. Sweet caramel, earthy hops and a slight woody nuttiness in the nose, full bodied but slightly unbalanced in the mouth with a solid fruity bitterness and a low burnt toffee sweetness, there are hints of marzipan and woody spirit notes but again working against each other rather than striving for harmony, finish has a lingering but restrained bitter hoppiness and some sweet maltiness.

Dark brown, creamy, lasting, cappuccino head. Aroma is tempting with roasted malt, sweet caramel and some coffee in between. Flavor is roasty and hoppy with caramel and light spicy notes. Finish is dry and long. Medium to full bodied

Pours a reddish brown colour, in a way similar to the original Hob Goblin, except it is much more malty and the fruit flavours are more subdued

From the 500 ml. bottle stamped CJK-22(smudged). Attractive medium to dark amber/mahogany pour with a full cream colored head that fades a bit. The aroma is of sweet malts, vague dark fruit, and low profile but earthy hops. Medium and smooth body. Like the aroma the character is malts and earth but I also pick up a touch of black licorice in the mix when I drink it. Mild but lingering bitterness on the backside. Very British. I’m in pub land.
