Hussmak?

Brown-red with small off white head. Aroma basically malty. Medium light body. Some carbonation. Sweet caramel malt flavor. Not much else going on, pretty straightforward. It’s ok.

Since discovering it in a Morrisons store, I have always had a soft spot for this beer. Despite it’s distinctive ’supermarket beer’ character, (of which I was much less aware when I first found this one) I just love the moon, so I think the gimmick of only ever being brewed under a full moon is a great one. As it turns out, it’s technically a full moon right now! So I’m super stoked about this beer after thinking about it, thinking I didn’t have one in stock, and yay, king of kings and queen a queens, I did! So I have poured it. Big foamy head. Nice red brown colour. Not bottle conditioned, unfortunately pasteurise and this is noticeable just in the aroma. However there’s a fairly significant malt character going on and the hops lend a sort of soapy, fragrant autumn spice nature. If autumn spice were a thing, anyway. Bready. Flowery, perfumed bread. A little bananary and earthy. Taste is similar but a little lacking proper oomph, however, for a supermarket beer from a pretty standard producer, this beer does have a lot going for it, the malt characteristics are reasonably complex, woody and there is a pleasant amount of diacetyl fruit flavours. Must be that moon! Still not a big winner in all respects but will always remain a gem to me, hinging largely on the concept.

Bottle from Morrisons. Dark amber with a thin head. Strong old ale but not overbearing with a sweetness throughout which is fairly sugary.
