Cask at The Tyburn. Pours rich amber with a filmy, off-white head. Easy malt nose with some caramel hints. Fairly sweet flavor, with some grape fruitiness, light toffee malts, some booze, and very faint bitterness. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Some more caramel in the aftertaste, with light, syrupy sweetness, more alcohol and mild bread. Plenty of lingerin grape notes, too. Not bad overall. Could use some work, though.

The Felix Holt, Nuneaton. With 10+ festival beers on at the 2 Nuneaton Spoons and not a scoop in sight, I finally cracked and ordered a half of this- I’ve been avoiding it since the day 1 of the festival. Bronze with nitro cream drapes. Remote straw and toffee aroma. Almond-sodden mush with the mineral softness you’d expect from Wychstons; hints of straw and apple peel, some bittering in the finish with a bready, creamy after note. Nothing whatsoever for me here, time to hit The Crown..

Cask, Highcross, Leicester. Copper coloured with a thin foam. Aromas are dark treacle with vinous notes and light roast malts. Winter berries with woody, earthy hops and peppery alcohol. Flavours are sweet treacle and molasses with Vimto fruitiness. Very toasted with quite a heavy bitterness. Warming alcohol with whisky notes. OK.

Cask, handpull at The Standing Order JDW, Edinburgh, with Craig, Stella & Kids, Jan, Charlotte & Loz, 30.10.10 Crikey this is so much better than the bottle version, less sweet and cloying not as podgy a much better beer all round. I still get the warmth from the alcohol but it seems to suit this rather well, rich and tangy with some good fruitiness. This is actually a fairly decent beer from Wychwood, it’s just a shame that I was trying this alongside the Titanic New York Wheat Porter. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Spoons Fest! Slightly hazy brown beer, small cream coloured head. Light semi dry palate. Mild tangy orange with a little tea. Even malt provides some balance. Lesser flavours of minerals, toffee and tangerine. Light and with a bright fruit edge this beer is nontheless a bit dissapointing lacking the complexity of even a normal Goblin!
